Police warn of
online Wii scam
   SCHENECTADY — City police are warning residents to beware of online vendors offering merchandise for sale below market value after an out-of-state resident reported that someone in the city may be operating an Internet scam.
   The man told police he posted a want ad on Craigslist.com saying that he wanted to buy a Nintendo Wii video game console. A man claiming to be from Schenectady answered the ad and offered the out-of-state man a new console with 14 games and accessories for $150.
   After the seller refused to meet in person to complete the deal, the potential buyer decided not to complete the transaction, then found other people on the Internet who said they were scammed by the Schenectady man, police said.
   Police researched the man’s name and address, but his given address does not exist and the phone number he listed is never answered, they said. They cannot prove the man even lives in Schenectady, they said.
