Tell me what happens if you are a homeowners and you don't pay your taxes?   Come on, answer the question.   WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DO NOT PAY YOUR PROPERTY AND SCHOOL TAXES?

come on....your smarter than this....yes?

just think.....for just a minute.....think....take a deep breath......if every single (majority) property owners did NOT pay their taxes....just ONCE (ALTHO I RECOMMEND MORE THAN ONCE)....the city would panic and the media would be on it like flies on sh!t!!!

You put your tax money aside...cause you know you will pay them eventually...but the city don't know that. you KNOW that it takes AT LEAST three years for the city to do anything other than send non consequential letters!! Do you honestly think that the city would try to repossess ALL the city properties??? OF COURSE NOT!!!

they would end up with egg all over their faces once the media got a hold of this!! It would put Schenectady in even a worse light than it's in now!!

COMMON SENSE....PURE AND SIMPLE....but nobody has the brains or balls to do it.....so suffer on folks!!!

It would make more sense to do POSITIVE things rather trying to "put Schenectady in even worse light than it's in now."  In fact, your statement proves the point that i have been making for over 5 years now --- certain people are truly "negative actors" -- get their kicks out of constantly complaining, never offer anything POSITIVE and aren't really willing to roll up their sleeves to do something POSITIVE for their community.
You folks are like a bunch of birds living in a nest.  The nest needs some repairs.   Rather than actually helping to fix your nest, you complain about it all day and THEN sh*t in it.   You sit in your own sh*t all day complaining and whining that things are getting worse.

Finally - back to the actual topic of the thread.   Erie Boulevard looks great.  It is a HUGE improvement over what it once was.  It was a good investment of our taxpayer dollars.   It is now encouraging additional investments in the Erie Blvd and Lower State corridor.  It is a sign that the Schenectady IS moving forward.  That Schenectady is better off today than it was 10 or 11 years ago.  That Schenectady IS improving.

you just don't get it...altho you are entitled to your views and I respect them.....however....the taxpayers can't do it anymore! that is why so many are 'walking away'. the rich are getting richer and the poor/middle class are getting poorer. No one appears to be listening to the taxpayers.

WELL there is ONE way that they will............DON'T PAY YOUR TAX BILL and watch how quick they take notice! watch how quick the media runs with this!!! The ENTIRE city would have to shut down!!! then perhaps the powers that be will realize that the 'rich and famous' aka the 'the friends and family club' should be paying 'their fair share' in taxes so the homeowners will not have to shoulder the tax burden.

DON'T PAY YOUR TAXES!!!! They can't repossess every single property in Schenectady. They would remedy this as soon as the media got a hold of this!!!!!

I don't think that YOU "get it."

If you want to change things -- do something POSITIVE -- get a bunch of people together who agree with you, choose candidates to run for office, support them, vote for them.  Don't just sit on the sidelines and complain.

Finally - getting back to the actual topic - those Federal tax dollars would have been spent in another comunity .. instead they were spent HERE in our community.  Our tax dollars made an improvement in OUR community.  The project has acted and will act as a catalyst for other projects (private and public) that will improve OUR community.

Stop shitting in your own nest.  Do something positive and constructive.  Be a part of the solution rather than insisting on being a part of the problem.

Pandora's box has been opened....and it can't be closed!! Don't fool yourselves!

METROPLEX will be here forever...perhaps without GILLEN someday....but will still be hear none the less, no matter who has their hand on that lever.

UNIONS, which is a huge burden on the taxpayers will make sure 'their candidate' gets elected.

DOWNTOWN'S RICH, will make sure 'their candidate' gets elected.
Dem or rep....it won't matter!

So the ONLY way to change things around to favor the property owners, is to NOT PAY YOUR TAX BILL....and shop OUT OF THE COUNTY every chance  you can!!

The media will have a field day with this one....and it will be like the shot heard around NYS and beyond!

This would become a major movement in communities that feel they are over taxed while some get a pass!!!

DON'T PAY YOUR TAXES FOLKS!!!!!!!!!
AND DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME VOTING!!!!
WORK ON CHANGING THE SYSTEM....NOT THE POLITICAL PARTY....THEY ARE NOT YOUR SAVIOR....YOU HAVE ALL THE POWER FOLKS!!!

First - Ray Gillen is a very nice person and does his job well.  He certainly is a HUGE improvement from the person who ran Metroplex before him.

Second - refusing to pay taxes is a useless gesture and a negative approach.  You say you don't like the government spending too much money --- yet you suggest a stupid response which will only cause the government to spend MORE money to have to follow up on the delinquent tax payers.

Third - there is NOTHING that says that you have to vote for a party candidate.  As I have said before, the party system in NY State is a joke.   The "minor parties" are a joke.  The two major parties are a joke.  That is why I vote for the candidates that I choose to support.  That is one of the two reasons why I resigned from the Democratic Committee over 2 years ago. (The other is that I have more important things to do with my limited time.)   The political party system in our area is meaningless.
If you have as many people agreeing with your views as you claim to have, you could easily gather enough signatures on a petition to create your own party line.

Finally - Stop shitting in your own nest.  Start thinking of POSITIVE ways to make a difference and change things.

Oh, so a massively reduced tax base in the city is indicative of the city " moving forward"   ?????

Can you elaborate on how the massively reduced tax base means the city is "moving forward?"

Can you state what the impact of the islands, trees, and fancy light poles on Erie Blvd have done for:

1.  the tax base of the city
2.  the property values IN the city in the neighborhoods
3.  the willingness of people to buy homes IN the city and live IN the homes
4.  the home sales IN the city
5.  the home sale prices IN the city
6.  the number of houses put up for sale
7.  the numbers of tax foreclosures in the city
8.  the essential services to the taxpayers IN their neighborhoods
9.  the condition of the streets in the neighborhoods where the taxpayers live
10. the tax BILLS of the homeowners IN the city

Watch DV respond with his customary "YAWN" which is his normal response when he is unable to write and provide evidence of positive impacts.   Sure, he can state 'this is a great project" but he can NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER cite ONE ITSY BITSY TEENY WEENY SHRED of EVIDENCE of a positive return for the homeowner taxpayers in their neighborhoods.

Can you answer the question of why the property values of downtown properties have fallen as PROVEN by the property owners' successful tax certiorari suits against the city?    Can you address that DV???????

First...Gillen may be a 'nice person'....don't make this personal for Gillen, when it ain't being addressed as personal for the taxpayers. Gillen is lining his pockets and the pockets of 'his choice' and is taking out of the pockets of the tax paying property owners. And as a side not....if it weren't Gillen doing this....it would certainly be someone else...that is why the METROPLEX needs to be abolished.

Second....no paying taxes is the ONLY way to get their attention and the attention of the media! It's the ONLY way the taxpayers will get some over due, well deserved attention.

Third....and in  your words......'minor parties are a joke'....so why would anyone spend even one minute garnering signatures for another candidate on a 'minor line'?

It is much much easier to sit in your over taxed home and put you tax bill in the 'pay next year' pile!!!

Change the system and don't pay your taxes....plain and simple!!

First - I will reiterate my opinion that Mr. Gillen is a a good person and that he is doing a great job.  All your (or the others') comments that suggest that he has nefarious intentions are (IMHO) a pile of horse sh*t.  You folks like to slander other peoples' good names without any real shred of evidence.  You hide behind user names to do that because it is the coward's way out.

Second - That is not the only way to get attention and, yes, it would only cause the government (which by the way is US .. not them) to have to waste time and money on the process of collecting the delinquent taxes.

Third - I believe that THE current minor parties are a joke because they  a) do not actually represent any political ideology or platform, b) they have been hijacked by public employee union members (and the Working Families by the spouses and children of public employees or the committee members of other parties) and c) add NOTHING of value to the political process except "muddy the waters" and lure voters by giving the impression that their nominees are "conservative", "independent" or in some way actually interested in working families when in reality they just want to accumulate the most ballot lines.    (One first step solution -- do not allow cross endorsements PERIOD ... so that any minor party would actually have to nominate someone from their own party who presumably might actually believe in the party's principles .. if the minor party actually has any principles.)

First - I will reiterate my opinion that Mr. Gillen is a a good person and that he is doing a great job.

Gillen is doing a great job?   Please explain then why has the tax base in the city falling massively over the years Gillen has been in power?

If he's doing a great job, how come the downtown properties are falling in value????

If he's doing a great job, how come home values in the city are falling????

If he's doing a great job, how come NO ONE wants to buy a house IN the city???????

If he's doing a great job, how come home sales AND home sale price are FALLING BIG TIME?

If he's doing a great job, why is it that you ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to LIVE IN the city??????

If he's doing a great job, how come the taxes in the city are increasing EACH AND EVERY YEAR?????    Have you found one shred of evidence to prove your statement that the taxes are lower now than in the 1970's??????

DV will NOT respond because he CANNOT CITE on itsy bitsy teeny weeny shred of evidence on what is this great job for the homeowners, their home values, their taxes and the tax base.

DV, your nose is growing longer by the day.   DV is nothing but a bucket full of lies  NEVER speaks one shred of truth
