ROFL. Prove it. EVERYONE knows that crime is going up up up up up up up up in Schenectady. You must have been having a dream in your sleep that you read that. And the worst thing, is that since that statement is a lie, and you know dang well it's a BIG LIE, you will NOT respond with any proof from an official FBI website showing the numbers over the past ten years.
MC1, everyone knows that you obviously have done your homework and have the FACTS! DVR or any other rose colored glasses person can't dispute your FACTS! My God, DVR even fails to openly admit that schenectady county has the highest taxing county in the country!!!
Perhaps it did start with the past rep administration.......but this liberal socialist administration has promised campaign after campaign that they will NOT raise taxes and promised taxes would go down once it coupled up with the plex!
THEY LIED! FACT!

This plan is going forward and the idiots in City Hall do not have any money budgeted for this. The latest news is that they are fiscally clueless and reading this site of ideas on what to cut. Keep making them.
They will be cutting The City Free Car Fleet and free cellphones, as I have long recommended. The Finance Department has $2,000 budget for City cellphones. This proves once again that they are making up figures. Other possible cuts; Deputy Mayor, Public Safety Commissioner, one Assistant Police Chief, Department of Development. Maybe it takes a fiscal crisis to clear out the City Hall dead wood. A 40% increase in spending by this Mayor is not sustainable. The new City Garage is a $500,000 a year dead weight on this budget. No fire fighters will be cut-the Bellevue Station must remain open. Curb the curb tax. Go back and cut the City Hall pork and nonprofit handouts completely. Send a tax bill to Union, Ellis and Proctor's.
Again.....poor planning from an inept local government. In a time of the 'great recession/depression', these clowns want to spend $14M to redo Erie blvd, when the rest of the streets have pot holes you could lose your car in!
And all of the cuts that benny has stated are nothing more than a 'very small start'. What about all of the city and county employees that will have life time lucrative health benefits at the already overburdened tax payers expense????

The longest journey starts with a first step. At least they are finally looking line by line for cuts. This is a seismic shift. Ba-Ba and Denise Brucker are acting. The others are the usual DEM dead wood that refuse to do anything.
Wait until the next meeting. Fire fighters are going door to door against Mayor SOS and the all DEM rubber stamps. Finally an opposition is organizing. No fire fighters will be laid off. It is not minor to send a bill to Union College for $500,000 and Ellis and Proctor's for $250,000 each. It is not minor to return 32 cars from the City Free Fleet. Every cellphone aside from police and fire must be returned. Freeze all capital construction including Erie Blvd. Zero out contributions to every nonprofit but the Food Pantry. Close every City Pool but Hamilton Hill. The taxpayers are being taxed too much and City Hall is spending too much.
The crime rate is down in Schenectady -- including murders -- according to the FBI crime statistics.
HEY DV, Can you provide a link to the FBI website from which you make this statement?
Obviously you cannot because it is not true, just another fairy tale just like the fairy tale of Schenectady being much improved under Savage----so improved that crime is skyrocketing, people are leaving the city in droves, increases in vacant housing is running rampant, city service---particularly the absolute necessities of public safety---are being reduced, and the taxes are increasing beyond people's ability to pay for them....but, Savage is taking care of her rich cronies, right DV?

Gee, I found NOTHING on the FBI website that supported your statement, DV.
Obviously, DV tells a fairy tale, and then tells people to go look it up themselves because---DV can't provide proof because IT DOESN'T EXIST! Crime is NOT going down in the city contrary to what DV says

CAPITAL REGION Data: Crime rising locally BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Capital Region law enforcement agencies are seeing more crime this year, reflecting a greater trend across New York. Data presented by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services indicates major crimes have increased across the state by about 1 percent over the fi rst six months of 2010. Acting Commissioner Sean Byrne said violent crime was up 3 percent and homicides increased by 11.5 percent across the state, statistics he considered signifi - cant given declines witnessed over the past two decades. “There is a very real possibility that this year will mark the first time in two decades that the crime rate will have increased,” he said in testimony delivered during a budget presenta- tion Tuesday. Albany, Schenectady and Troy all had an increase in the number of reported crimes over the past nine months, according to fi gures provided by the division. But the types of crimes behind the increase varied from city to city. For instance, Schenectady saw a 7.8 percent spike in the total number of crimes reported in the city during the first nine months of 2010. Violent crimes such as rape, murder, robbery and assault increased by 18.4 percent when compared to the same time period in 2009. Albany police witnessed a 9.2 percent increase in reported crimes this year, but saw no change in the number violent crimes. Instead, the state capital saw an 11.4 percent rise in the number of property crimes, a figure that was nearly double the percentage increase reported in Schenectady. Troy reported an increase of 10.6 percent in crime, including an alarming 33 percent rise in violent offenses. The Collar City also reported a 7.1 percent increase in property crimes, which includes burglaries, larcenies and motor vehicle thefts. Some of the region’s smaller cities also saw marked increases in crime so far this year. Amsterdam police have seen a 66 percent increase in reported crime, with an eye-popping 155.6 percent spike in property offenses. The city of Johnstown in neighboring Fulton County reported a 31 percent rise in crime this year. Reported burglaries in the city jumped from 11 in 2009 to 38 so far this year — a 245.5 percent increase. Saratoga Springs saw reported crime stay flat so far this year. There were no appreciable increases or declines recorded in any of the categories monitored by the state. Law enforcement offi cials gave varying reasons for the fi gures released by the division this week. Albany police spokesman James Miller said the numbers come as no surprise considering the uptick the city has seen in burglaries and vehicle break-ins. “We’re well aware of it,” he said Wednesday. Miller said its possible the troubled economy could be a factor in some of the increase in property crimes. But he stopped short of listing it as a reason. “It’s too early to say without having any data to support it,” he said. Amsterdam police Detective Owen Fuhs credited the willingness of city residents to report crimes as they are happening for helping to reduce violent crimes before they happen. Though the city saw a marked increase in reported crimes, there was a steep decline in violent incidents. “They report more and we fi nd more,” he said. “I think that’s a good thing.” Calls placed to Schenectady Police Chief Mark Chaires and Commissioner Wayne Bennett were not returned Wednesday. Byrne is advocating to maintain funding for his division so that New York doesn’t fall back into “the bad old days” of the 1970s and 1980s, when crime spiked throughout the state. He said funding law enforcement initiatives prevents crime from taking a signifi cant toll on the state’s economy. “We have fought too long and too hard to gain all this ground, and we don’t intend to give back an inch,” he said in testimony. “In fact, we intend to take more ground and continue — always continue — to pursue our goal to make New York state the safest state in the United States.”
Shu Savage has made us all safer, better, happier, richer, more productive and better looking. Just ask DV.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Quoted from 800">The crime rate is down in Schenectady -- including murders -- according to the FBI crime statistics. Downtown Schenectady has turned the corner .. and is coming back to life.
Interestingly, I was at an event all day with folks from all over the greater Capital District .... and they got talking about Schenectady and Proctor's ---- these folks are happy with the progress that they see in Schenectady and love coming to eat, shop, and see a show.
Too bad that the Regressives can't be more positive .. but I don't believe in wasting my time trying to change what can't be changed ... they can wallow in the mud of their own negativity.
Liars????? we are STILL waiting for YOU to post the official link to the FBI stats where YOU stated that the FBI says crime in Schenectady is going down. Well? Were is it????? You try to weasel your way out of an answer by saying that we should look it up ourselves. You keep making statements that have ABSOLUTELY NO SUPPORTIVE PROOF, unlike the statements I made how financially struggling taxpayers in the city are paying the property and school taxes for the very well-heeled downtown, and I made those statement with TOTAL PROOF POSITIVE from OFFICIAL PUBLIC RECORDS and provided the link AND instructions on how ANYONE can look it up....and that all TOTALLY SUPPORTS MY STATEMENTS.
We have yet to see you provide official links to statements you make

I made my comments with total proof .. from official public records as well -- if you want them .. look them up for yourself. I have no use for you and your ignorant rants.
But he has NEVER NEVER NEVER provided a url or a link to the babble he spewed. Over three and one-half years later and not one link to the FBI to substantiate what he said
According to official FBI statistics for the past decade ... certain types of crime are down in Schenectady .. that is what I stated in my post a couple months ago. I never said ALL crime was down. I also know Rev. Grigsby as I used to attend SICM meetings for many years as a parish representative and our parish is a member of SICM and supportive of its efforts.
The FBI data that I cited a few months back showed that certain "violent crimes" were down in Schenectady over the past decade and "property crimes" were up.
.
Gee in his first message where does he write those words "certain" and/or "violent crimes." ?????????
I have NEVER said there was no crime in the city. I did say that according to FBI statistics certain types of crime are down compared to 10 years ago. And .. the Renaissance continues.

Erie Boulevard looks great. It was certainly worth the investment of money and the "hassle" during construction. Now, they are redoing lower State Street. Then we can look forward to Mohawk Harbor and the renewal of the north end of the Erie Blvd Corridor. All of which will spur additional private investment in redevelopment projects in Schenectady.

How can you say its looks great when it'snot even being maintained . Do you read the paper . It's sad they spent all that money to let it go to hell.
I read the papers. You shouldn't believe everything you seen in them.
Erie Boulevard IS being maintained. It looks great.
