the statement that nobody will use the bike path -- is one of the stupidest comments that I have seen
yet  --- the existing bike paths are well used  and this project will connect the paths along the river to the
downtown ---- next we need to run the bike paths up into the surrounding neighborhoods and on into
Rotterdam and Niskayuna.

Uh before we have bike paths, we need safer streets in this city, we need something done about the every increasing number of vacant houses that are havens for the bums, the druggies, and are a danger to neighors if those houses catch fire.  These are just a few things needed far more than a bike pat right now

It is called - economic development -  you need to invest money to draw businesses to fill the gap left
when ALCO and GE cut those thousands of jobs.

This has nothing to do with economic development.  Don't you have a brain?   Erie Blvd was just fine in the past when tens of thousands of jobs were here.  It accomodated all the traffic.

Granted, there isn't as much traffic now, but you CANNOT, and I reapeat you CANNOT attract business by redoing a street in order to create traffic jams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Busines goes where traffic flows freely.  Don't you realize that people want to get places fast, get in and out and back home again with ease!!!!!   People do NOT want to drive on a narrow Erie Blvd sitting in traffic.  People want to QUICKLY get to 890 and IF, that's IF there were many jobs in the old Alco place, it would be a necessity to have Erie Blvd wide so people can get quickly to the highway to get home.  Or coming to work in the morning, people do NOT want to get off the highway and squeeze into a narrower road.

Since it was fine for the tens of thousands of people who worked downtown then, it's fine now.  It was fine for the people who drove to work, who took the bus to work and it was fine for all those thousands upon thousands of GE workers who walked to downtown during lunch, and we didn't have people getting hit by cars.  It was both traffic and pedestrian friendly then.

We have needs far greater than changing a street to cause traffic jams.   $14 million would go far toward more cops on the street, cleaning up the neighborhoods, and lowering the taxes.

You dems need to stop the tax and spend, tax and spend

Bike paths do not create jobs. They do not create economic development. It speaks volume that the only thing these local DEM morons got out of a billion dollar Federal stimulus plan was County bike path improvements. From a DEM President!

How do you create a job? Death Ray would answer that by calming traffic {creating pollution and gridlock} and improving the bike paths. Commuters do not ride bikes from the GE main plant. Lower taxes to create a more favorable economic climate for private sector investment and jobs. Naah, we'd rather spend it on unused bike paths.

Bike paths won't create jobs and lower taxes. An Erie Blvd make over will not create jobs and lower taxes. Just like the Metroplex and the two blocks of state street won't and hasn't created jobs or lowered taxes. In fact it has just done the opposite. Unemployment has increased to 60%. Crime is at an all time high. Taxes are out of the roof!! The dss building is busting at the seams!

And I don't give a crap if the money is federal or state funded......it is still the people's tax dollars being flushed down the toilet!!! Schenectady's county officials apparently do not have the sense to know what priorities need to be dealt with first.

Just check Susan Savage's sinking polls!! NOBODY WANTS HER!! Savage and Stratton and the rest of the democons needs to be sent packing in the next election!!! IMHO

The money for this project came BEFORE the economic stimulus --- it was included in a budget passed
during the Bush Administration.

You are the moron .. because you have absolutely no grasp of the actual facts.

Progress???????

Ah, so the increasing numbers of dilapidated houses in the city is progress, huh?
Ah, so the increasing numbers of abandoned houses in the city is progress, huh?
Ah, so the increasing crime in the city is progress, huh?
The ever increasing taxes is progress, huh?
The ever increasing unemployment is progress huh?
Cutting fire protection is progress, huh?
Letting parks become overgrown is progress, huh?
Making a household with an income of $30,000 a year pay their own taxes AND the taxes of the millionaires is progress, huh?
Creating traffic backups is progress, huh?
Narrowing a major thoroughfare such that there is no lane for emergency vehicles to sneak into, no lanes for cars to move over into, that's progress, huh?
Paying tax delinquents a quarter of a million of taxpayer's money and then never making them pay their delinquent taxes....that's progress huh?

The Erie Blvd project is more than just a bike path -- and it is a project that is long overdue ---- it will
revitalize an important corridor of the city and bring economic development to it.

You folks are just jealous and upset that during all the years that the GOP ran the county and the city ...
they did NOTHING positive and presided over the closing of ALCO ... the loss of 35,000 jobs at GE and
the flight of many residents out of the city.

Your party and your way of thinking brought down the county and the city ---- we are now turning things
around and making progress on a recovery.

YOu call it a positive improvement to tax the low income people to make them pay the property taxes of the rich and wealthy?

How IS that progress?

DVOR, do you have a brain??????????????????????????????????

DO you realize housholds in the city make only $30,000 a year, that is the norm, that is what MOST households (NOT individuals, i.e., not a couple each who make that, but the couple TOGETHER).

Now, read and try to comprehend.

Employers are cutting back.  People of Schenectady are having raises taken away.  People in Schenectady are having to pay more for health insurance BOTH in terms of the premium AND higher deductibles and co-pays. Co-pays for meds are really going up.   People in Schenectady are increasingly losing pensions because employers are taking that benefit away.  Peoples' investments are losing.  People will be paying more for heat this winter based on the news today.  People are paying more for gas.  People are not paying more for clothes because the tax on clothes has started again.  The elderly on SS are not getting raises, this is two years in a row.  STAR property exemptions are being reduced.  Seniors with employer pensions are not seeing raises, gee, I think GE has given maybe one raise in 20 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO you have any clue how people of Schenectady are struggling financially!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And with increases in their school and county taxes, and now this huge increase in city taxes AND the new fees that are addded, how can people manage?????   Huh????

But we have this Mallozzi worth millions.  Now tell usm, DVOR, tell us HOW you feel exempting this rich guy from paying property taxes is justified when the people in the city have to make up the difference.

Explain HOW you feel it is just and right for the seniors in this city to have to eliminate taking prescriptions becuase their city taxes are going up becuase they have to cover the cost of the taxes for Mallozzi?

Mallozzi can afford to pay his taxes IN FULL.   The lower income people of Schenectady struggle.

WHY should the low income people struggle, turn the thermostat way down, go without medication, avoid going to the doctor, etc in order to pay Mallozzi's taxes??????????????   Huh????????????????

That Hampton Inn, there.  Out of it's value of $8.7 MILLION, it is nostly tax exempt.  The low income people in Schenectady have to cover the taxes due on a whopping $6 MILLION dollars.  DVOR, explain why YOU think it's just and fair that people in the city who are struggling financially should be forced to pay even more taxes to cover the taxes on this property!

THe bombers gin mill---they don't pay one teeny weeny penny of property taxes!!!!!!!!!   BUt YOU cheer that the average homeowner has to make decisions between paying for food or paying for medicine in order to pay the taxes of this wild business full of rowdy drunk college kids.

That bow tie theater---worth $7.5 million....HOW can you say it is fair that the struggling homeowners should be covering the cost of the property taxes on $7 million of that property??????????

That Paul Mitchell is worth a fortune, but every penny of taxes is paid by the struggling homeowners in Schenectady.

Up the road is MVP, between the MVP and their parking garage, it's assessed for well over $20 million.  And YOU think it's just so wonderful that the struggling taxpayer has to cover the cost for roughly 75% of the taxes.

DVOR, explain this to us.  People in Schenectady pay the 19th HIGHEST taxes in the whole country.    What is your feeling that people increasingly going to lose their homes to tax foreclosure.  DO you believe it's fair for your Savage and company to make the low income people pay the taxes for the rich and then probably lose their homes because they can't afford the taxes??????????????

Is your definition of progress the act of making people homeless by taxing them out of their homes, causing them to get sick because they are taxed so high that they can't afford medical care?

YOu are one pathetic excuse for a human being to think it's progress to make low income people pay increased taxes so that the rich don't have to pay any taxes.

And you are a pathetic piece of crap for making up a bunch of unsubstantiated statements about what you
think my position is on the issue.

The FACT is that this thread is about  the project to improve Erie Blvd --  that is all this thread is about and
that my only comments were to express support for this project.
The FACT is that the $11 million dollar Federal grant can ONLY be spent on this project ... so NOT doing it
would NOT lower taxes in the city.

I repeat my earlier comments ... you are a perpetually negative whiner --- go dig a 6 foot hole and jump
in it ... it would be the first positive thing you would have done to improve Schenectady County in your life.

Noooooooooooo....it is apparent that the entire bunch of liberal socialists don't have one brain cell to call their own. They just don't get it!!! This is a total waste of taxpayer's money! It will NOT bring businesses into schenectady county with it's high crime rate and high taxes. That is unless of course the metroplex gives them a sweetheart deal at the taxpayers expense!!

It's funny MC brings up Paul Mitchell another complete chuck up by Death Ray and his merry idiots. What working class family is going to spend over $15,000 a year for a Beauty School with no loans? The Big Hose wasted $1 million in taxpayer money and nobody said nuthin. No wonder the City is broke.

In today's snooze another fanny kiss for Proctor's. Fantastic! Renaissance! Another taxpayer funded catering hall which pays nuthin-where Key Bank used to be. With no caterer. You can't make this up. And Mercury Morris will host a party! It's so pathetic its laughable. They are really taking heat for grabbing another prime building off the City tax rolls. What is Mercury Morris making a year? Report that.

The elitists DEMS have another party while the County sheeple are eating cheese sandwiches to pay the exploding taxes and new curb fee. Some miracle. A renaissance where they close churches. Rebirth where they squeeze the City Mission.
