The mayor and his little brown shirts on the council are still trying to force something that the residents don't want down their throats.

Boulevard plan gets more praise than pans

SCHENECTADY — There doesn’t appear to be any business owners supporting Rocco Palmer now.
After years of debate, most of the complaints about the redevelopment plan for Erie Boulevard have been resolved, business owners said, and although the plan still calls for the seizure and demolition of Palmer’s adult bookstore, he apparently no longer has any allies.
At Monday’s public hearing on whether to take the adult bookstore and a former gun store through eminent domain, only three speakers even discussed the issue. The vast majority of the residents at the hearing came to praise the other aspects of the project.
Afterward, the council members said their minds had not been changed by anything said at the hearing. Those who were opposed to eminent domain remained so; those in favor were still in favor. No vote is expected for weeks while the council collects written comments.
Council members did note, with pleasure, that the hearing was far more cordial than previous discussions on the issue. Business owners reported that their problems with the road plan had been addressed. One by one, they pledged their support...............................>>>>...........>>>>................http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2009/aug/11/0811_boulevard/

What a waste of money for something we don't really need when half of Schenectady is starting to look like an abandoned city.

What a joke from stunad Son of Sam. Don't believe for a second that any business supports this.

Moving a business to realign a street no one drives on? This will cause a chain reaction closing another business in Bellevue. This is what you get when you vote for someone who's only work experience was staffer for horrid Paterson. At most rubber stamps on the pathetic City Council are strongly against this farce.

Equal treatment for all
Marv Cermak

A long line of Schenectady City Hall administration friends -- mainly developer/business types -- went to the City Council rail speaking in support of the controversial $14 million Erie Boulevard upgrade.

Romolo Versaci, watching the love fest on public access Channel 16, was so upset over the litany that he left home and drove to City Hall.

He arrived after the public hearing ended, but the octogenarian lawyer, a lifelong city resident and former City Court judge, was allowed to speak.

"I got out of a sick bed to come here,'' Versaci said. "There is nothing wrong with Erie Boulevard. All it needs is a little greenery.''

He rejected the administration line about the feds and state picking up nearly all the project cost. "I don't like that reasoning,'' Versaci said. "Instead of Erie Boulevard the money should be used to help the sick and the needy.''

Some residents who regularly attend council meetings praised Council President Peggy King for letting Versaci speak even though the public part of the meeting was finished. However, they hoped in the future King would do the same for others.

Mr. Versaci....there is MORE than enough money going to the sick and the needy. That's the problem. There are many, so called 'sick and needy' that are really NOT 'sick and needy'. Just takers who sit home and wait for their government check.

However, I do agree with Mr. Versaci's assessment that Erie blvd is doing just fine and has for decades.

Silent Peggy King let someone speak after the open floor? That's got to be a first.

This whole charade is like a toothache that never goes away. Agree with Romolo Versaci and BT. It's all the typical BS to help a few chosen developers. Absolutely no need for the disruption to GE commuters who want to get quickly home to Glenville and Montgomery County. A total waste of tax dollars -Federal/State and over a million in City Taxes.

Only stunad Sam of Sam would thinks this helps any business. What business did he ever run? Right he was a clerk to horrible Sen Paterson-before he became accidential Gov.

"stunad Sam of Sam"?? THAT is kind of funny. Speaking of Stunad, where is Sal to defend all this hocus pocus on Erie Blvd and elsewhere? On a side note, Mr. Versaci is a very compassionate older gentleman of the old school. I respect him immensely and only disagree in that the money wasted here on Erie Blvd. should strictly go to tax relief, not more welfare.

Check with Cicero, it is all a GOP conspiracy. They even raised the fee on the license plates and registrations. (Even though they are out of power 100%)

SCHENECTADY
Restaurant goes under before it even opens
Pentagon, eagerly anticipated, faces foreclosure

BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Kathleen Moore at 395-3120 or moore@dailygazette.com.

The Pentagon restaurant is heading to foreclosure without ever opening its doors.
The restaurant on lower Erie Boulevard was eagerly anticipated by those who remembered when the restaurant first operated here in 1978. Owner Frank Popolizio, who ran the restaurant back then, had planned to reopen it in all its glory this summer.
He did not return phone calls seeking comment on the foreclosure auction.
Workers spent months renovating the space, which had been vacant for years after Bambino’s closed. They redid the interior, creating a classy, upscale environment, and began work on the kitchen before they learned that the bank was auctioning off the building. They were still working there Tuesday.
The auction is set for Sept. 14 at 12:30 p.m. at the Schenectady County Courthouse.
Attorneys running the sale said that unlike most real estate auctions, this one has no set minimum bid. The bank will accept the highest bid, no matter how low, they said.
Popolizio has contacted the law firm, hoping to buy back the building during the auction, they said.
Meanwhile, plans to improve the “sea of asphalt” that leads past the restaurant are still under way. After a delay of more than a year, the latest plan for Erie Boulevard appears to have passed muster. The City Council is expected to take a fi nal vote on the project soon.
Mayor Brian U. Stratton said he expects the project to be approved. ..................>>>>...................................>>>>.....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01202&AppName=1

God, it is a new low for Schenectady where even our movie star is ugly.

Stunda Son of Sam is going to force this through and he doesn't care who is against it. Nobody supports this except developers as Marv Cermak noted. Give up and give the oppressed City sheeple a break today.

More renaissance news? "The Pentagon will be the catlyst for development of the Erie Boulevard Tech corridor" stated Deat Ray. Too bad it never opened. Tech corridor is equally hilarious. A DSS satellite office is hardly a tech corridor. These DEMS could not operate a lemonaid stand.

Old Schenectady favorite coming back
May 27, 12:03 PMUpstate NY Restaurant ExaminerBill Dowd

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Marv Cermak, the ubiquitous columnist who has covered this city for generations, reports in his latest Albany Times Union column that an old favorite restaurant will re-open in June.

As he notes, Frank Popolizio will be coming full circle next month when he reopens The Pentagon, an Erie Boulevard restaurant he first operated in 1978.

Over the intervening years, the building has housed such other restaurants as the Erie Barge, Backgrounds and Bambino's. It has been vacant for several years.

"We've been working at renovations for weeks,'' Popolizio told Cermak. "Nothing fancy, but it will be something new and different. Former diners won't recognize the place.''
