In the meantime, let’s see if, for this year, anyway, city and/or county recreation officials (Ed Kosiur?) can figure out a way to make some lemonade from this loss.
I dont know about lemonade, but Kook-Aid seems to be the flavor of the year, eh Savage?
This sure makes it obvious that Kosiur is in way over his head and doesn't have the skill, experience, and training to do the patronage job he was appointed to.
Re May 11 article, “Youth Bureau leader facing harsh critics”: Shane Bargy “lackluster” performance? Where did Susan Savage, chairwoman of the county Legislature, come up with that? My experience, and that of people who worked with him here and in the state, was quite different. Shane was a breath of fresh air. I write as a former county legislator, someone involved in the community since 1968 including coordinating the Hamilton Hill Forum for 13 years. Shane, in his role as director of the Youth Bureau, was able, collaborative and innovative. He played an important part in partnerships and the Schenectady’s Promise program — just what the county should want in an administrator. He listened, questioned and tried to find common ground. From my observation of Chairwoman Savage and County Attorney Chris Gardner, those are skills they should try to model rather than condemn. JIM MURPHY Scotia
I too am dismayed at the remarks made concerning Shane Bargy. He did an outstanding job always going above and beyond. It's ashame the County Leg is so out of touch they couldn't see this. Anyone who would make those comments about him clearly does not know what they are talking about and never had the opportunity to truly work WITH him. He worked with us every summer to help make our summer youth program a success. He was always available and we miss him a great deal. Mr. Murphy is entirely correct with his assessment and shame on Sue Savage for trying to justify the already poor decision of removing him with this garbage. He was an asset to the county and all its communities. SHAME ON YOU, SUE.
I don't know MT, you may be right, but I see the Metroplex and the County Legislatures under fire more so now than in the past. They can't retract or deny or hide behind their political agendas forever.

I find it interesting that although Mr. Kosiur is no longer officially part of the County Legislature, he still doesn't have to stoop to sitting back with the "general public," and instead gets a seat right behind the legislators, where he can be buddy buddy with them anytime.
Another thing that really got to me during the time I was able to stay at the County Legislature meeting tonight (and other meetings that I have attended) is the number of times that members of the Legislature will actually walk out during the meeting. They watch where the camera is and make sure they won't be caught, then what, sneak out for a smoke break? A potty break? Can they not prepare for the meeting by going to the little boys / girls room? Or are there back room meetings going on DURING the County Legislature meetings? Too bad the public doesn't get to see this on SACC-TV.
KOSIUR’S PLEDGE In a written statement, Kosiur said he believes he is the best-qualified person for the job. “The real issue is commitment, dedication and enthusiasm,” he wrote. He cited his years of employment with the Boys and Girls Club and his prior experience as a Schenectady County legislator. “In January, the County Legislature renewed its commitment to our county’s youth and set a goal of developing a more robust youth services program. I have dedicated my career to working with youth and have been working diligently to implement the county Legislature’s vision,” Kosiur said. County Attorney Chris Gardner said Kosiur is bringing innovative programs to the forefront and is continuing existing programs. “I think you will have a lot more activities for your youths throughout the county that will help a number of situations,” such as reducing the number of children arrested for delinquency issues, he said.
Wow..look at those qualifications for this newly created, appointed, tax-paid $80k job. - he worked for the boys and girls club. - he has experience as a schenectady county legislature. - he has enthusiasm. Well, Eddy Kosiur has lived off the taxpayers almost all of his adult life. And Eddy Kosiur clearly knows that he is way over his head with this one. But not to worry, the dictatorship will carry him and create programs for him to facilitate. Cause he surely cannot do this on his own merit.

Sometimes I wonder if you folks at the Gazette have any idea what life is like out here on the streets of Schenectady, and particularly in the inner city. I’m referring to your May 9 editorial, “Camp Kosiur: Good money after bad,” where you state that there are plenty of day camp programs for inner-city kids, and therefore no need for the recreation program that Youth Program Coordinator Ed Kosiur and the Schenectady County Legislature are proposing. The program that Mr. Kosiur and the Legislature are proposing would take place in Central Park, a beautiful, healthy setting that is immediately adjacent to where many of our families live. It would also provide them with healthy, educational and fun activities. Many of the programs being offered by other agencies are either filled, too expensive or inaccessible to our kids. In discussing the county program with other pastors, we feel confident we can help generate community support for the kids who wish to enroll this summer and feel that its potential for success will ensure its continuation and expansion. I simply can’t understand why your paper would be so negative about a program that would do so much for so many who are in the greatest need. I do hope you will examine your conscience and be more positive. REV. EMANUEL ADAMS Schenectady The writer is associate minister of New Bethel Community Church of God and Christ.
I see in the vote on channel 16 that Dagostino and Jezenski vote UP, while Angelo S and Shurada vote DOWN. Thanks Angelo and Joe for looking out for the other taxpayers other than the city people. The city needs to be treated right, but more government programs and spending may not be what their doctor ordered. Maybe less spending and less taxes will help them? Maybe the people will have jobs and the businesses will come into the city if the taxes and crime were lessened. Who knows?

The heck with the doctor...this is not what the hard working taxpayers ordered. Schenectady County has more non-profits and government programs to take care of every single resident who lives here. I don't think anyone minds giving a helping hand, but when there are government programs created just to create more taxpaid public employment jobs....it has to stop!!!!
