Who needs downtown’s $7 parking spaces?

What a joy it is to come to downtown Schenectady.
I went to the Clint Black concert on Oct. 25. I drove up State Street about 45 minutes before the concert was to start. I was overjoyed to see a few parking spots on State Street. I parked my car in one; I was not overjoyed very long. Someone walked up to me and said to park there would cost me $7. She said she was from Proctors — they were trying to bring a little class downtown. That was not my idea of class.
Now I have another reason not to come to downtown Schenectady.

Proctors and the city really don't want people to go downtown do they. They pump all that money into the 2 block area near Proctors and then harass everyone that comes down there.

I can't believe that Proctors would even dare charge that amount of money to park there to see a show. Hell, you can go to any one of the many many bars that we as taxpayers have invested in and get drunk AND park for free! I think that is as**backwards.

Plenty of free parking in downtown Sch’dy
RAY GILLEN
Schenectady The writer is the chairman of Metroplex.

We want to clarify some information in a Nov. 11 letter by Bruce Baker, a county resident who unfortunately was misinformed about parking fees downtown.
The letter writer thought he needed to pay $7 to park on State Street while attending a performance at Proctors. The fact is that Metroplex offers valet parking for $7 — if you wish to drive your car to the front of Proctors on State Street and avail yourself of valet parking services. You may park free of charge in the parking garage while attending any Proctors performance, or any shows at Movieland.
On-street parking is free after 5 p.m. All Metroplex lots on either side of Jay Street and near Pinhead Susan’s are free after 5 p.m., with two hours’ free parking during the daytime. There is also surface parking behind Proctors on show nights for $3 or $5.
More information my be obtained at http://www.schenectadyparking.com.

I wouldn't walk from the free parking lots after a show at Proctors at night for fear of being mugged or worse.

Ditto on that one shadow. Between the slugs that walk around the streets of downtown and the dysfunctional police department....you wouldn't catch me down there. I certainly wouldn't feel safe, leaving the movie theater or anywhere else for that matter, at night to go to my car in the parking garage even though it is free.
