Quoted Text
The lone person to address the county panel Tuesday during its regular meeting was Duanesburg Supervisor Rene Merrihew. She repeatedly called the measure ill-conceived and thoughtless.

Merrihew also came armed with petitions from "750 angry people in District 4" and said she got 60 more letters from Princetown residents.

"We're angry at the total disregard for us and our children," said Merrihew, who punctuated her comments by saying she and fellow supervisors remained committed to having both laws rescinded.

I say Ms. Merrihew should run for County Legislature!! The girl is excellent!!

I'll second that, too!

Vote Merrihew and Lazzari!  Maybe even instead of Judy "Turncoat" Dagostino.

Paleezzzeee!! Judy Turncoat, isn't even an option anymore! It would be in her best interest to do us all a favor and just retire from politics. PLEASE!

I hope the 'other side' doesn't use 'the kids' as fuel for campaigning.....the fact of the matter is that the parents/guardians are responsible for 'the kids'-their kids....just get a law with bite in it, that is enforceable and tangible in this crazy world....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Maybe it's better that they do, then we can remind them about Kosiur's Law.  I was thinking that, for the big meeting for the public to give input on it next week, we could get shirts with that wonderful stop sign on them.

Then we have to MAKE her retire.  Vote her out.  Hit the campaign trail.

Thank you for your kind words and support.  I am proud to be a part of the effort to rescind the sex offender laws and will continue to do what I can.  I appreciate all the work you have done with the letter writing and petition signing.  I have been "lurking" around this forum for the last several weeks and paying close attention to all that is said.  A few postings back Shadow referred to Lazzari and myself as "politicians".  I know it goes with the territory of being Supervisor but I am not a politician.  I'm just doing the best I can for the town I love.  I grew up in Duanesburg and will probably die here.  I need to make sure it is the best that I can make it.  Thanks again, Rene'

Well, Rene, just think of this as another place that you can come to become informed what the people of the area think, and realize that when you do speak to the county legislature, that you are actually speaking for us all.  I think I'm going to try to make it to the county meeting next Wednesday, but whatever happens, we stand behind you.

I realized it was a good place to see how people feel right from the get go.  I admit I have become addicted to this site and enjoy reading all the subjects. Not just the single issue.  I read a comment made on the sex offender subject Monday night that made me realize the enormity of this issue and my responsibility to all, not just D'burg.  BigK, you just said something similar again.......that I speak for all of you.  I did not sleep because of that remark but it did help me get through having 5 cameras and microphones in my face last night.  That was one of the most terrifying moments in my life.

Glad to hear you enjoy reading our rants. And obviously you can see that we are addicted as well. It's fun and yet informative.

We are all small town people, with different yet somewhat common desires for our community. We are all threaded together and yet feel like we are held hostage to our county legislatures. We hope for needed change.

Anything more we can do to help, just give us a 'post', and you can rest assured we'll be there

Actually, Rene, to this point, as far as we know, none of the other people holding public office have been coming to this site.  That is unless, like you have done until just recently, they have been coming to read and not posting, or coming in under an alias.  We appreciate that, although we are a very small sub-section of the population of Rotterdam, that we can finally see that someone is seeing what we post in here.  In fact, I sometimes see coming to this site as therapeutic, to let out a little bit of steam.  While there are tumes we are joking, for the most part, you can see that everything on here is straight from the heart, and we try to speak up for those who are not here.  We appreciate you taking the time to read this, especially considering how much we speak of issues right here in Rotterdam, even though they don't immediately affect your town.  Just remember, as one part of the county goes, so does the entire county, and same with the state.  We look forward to your input on what you think can / should be done with our ideas, and if something we say is so far off the wall and/or not able to be done, we look to you for that recognition.  Remember, though Duanesburg is 5 miles away from Rotterdam, what happens here could be happening there next.  And again, thank you for your fight against this horrible law.

Rene my reference to you as a politician for the people was meant as a compliment to both you and Carolina as I feel you have the peoples best interest at heart. I just figured that anyone who has a political office is a politician no ill was intended.
