I saw a Kosiur campaign ad on TV today and heard one on the radio. I was somewhat dismayed to hear how he, if elected, is going to try to pass this sex offender law for the entire state!!! What is he even thinking? And from what I hear, this sex offender thing was actually Joe Surhada's idea, but Kosiur took it and ran with it. That just goes to show what kind of guy he is. He is actually building his entire campaign on the idea that a rep thought of in the first place. And ya know...the gazette knew that...you would have thought they would have reported that. But wouldn't that be a surprise for a liberal media outlet to tell the truth about a rep that may hinder a dem?

Clearly, Kosier can not be elected to this position. He not only has a political platform issue for me...but he surely now also has a character issue as well.

I saw the ad as well and I didn't hear one word from him that he's going to cut taxes or cut back spending to relieve some of the tax payers burden.

Assembly candidate releases tax data
Ed Kosiur will vie with George Amedore for seat vacated by Paul Tonko

By JENNIFER PATTERSON, Staff writer
First published: Wednesday, July 11, 2007

SCHENECTADY -- Facing a wealthy opponent in the race to fill the 105th Assembly District seat, candidate Ed Kosiur released his tax return and other financial disclosure forms Tuesday, a move he said reflects his campaign's theme of improving government transparency.

As well as his tax return, the 51-year-old Democrat said he's disclosing his assets, business transactions and expenditures to the public. "I think that anyone who runs for public office should fully disclose this important information," he said.

Kosiur, vice chairman of the Schenectady County Legislature, is battling George Amedore Jr., whose family owns Amedore Homes, a large regional home-building company that earlier this year received media attention for its role in building a home in Colonie on the ABC television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

Kosiur, who is director of teen employment at the Boys and Girls Club, and his wife, Barbara, a school nurse, earned $77,365 last year.

Amedore, a Republican, said he has turned over his financial records to the state Ethics Commission.

He said while he earns more than Kosiur, it wouldn't affect his role as an assemblyman.

"There are 212 legislators in the state Assembly right now, and I'm sure there is a broad range of income levels," Amedore said. "The issues I'm focusing on are high taxes and how they hurt people, not about who's making more or less." A special election will be held for the seat on July 31. Amedore and Kosiur have each begun to run television advertisements, an unusual occurrence in an Assembly race and a sign of how intensely interested both political parties are in the outcome.

The two men are vying for the seat vacated last month when Democrat Paul Tonko resigned to become president of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The district is comprised of Montgomery County as well as Schenectady, Rotterdam, Princetown and Duanesburg.

Kosiur says he backs several Assembly bills to reform government, including legislation to allow citizens to copy public documents maintained by the state Ethics Commission and Legislative Ethics Committee.

He also supports a measure to prevent state agencies from claiming copyright protection for information that is required by public law and another that would strengthen the state Open Meetings Law.

Kosiur resides with wife and three children in Schenectady.

Patterson can be reached at 454-5340 or by e-mail at jpatterson@timesunion.com.

Sounds like Kosiur's a good choice.  Good thing he's probably a shoe-in to win anyway.  It's nice when the guy with an easy win is also the one that seems to be the best choice.....

Indy, sorry to say, but you might want to read the rest of this board.  As for the commercial that Kosiur supposedly has, I haven't seen it yet.

Notice how this article is slanted, too?  Hey, where's the fairness doctrine when you need it?  If Ms. Patterson is going to include Mr. Kosiur's stance on the issues in the article, shouldn't she also include Mr. Amedore's?  Or does he have to buy ad space?

I notice that Mr. Kosiur still has not said one thing about reducing spending or trying to reduce our taxes. All he talks about is the sex offender bill and allowing people more access to ethics records. Those to things are really going to make my life better.

Okay...please tell me on what platform he is going to win with? Why should anyone vote for Mr. Kosiur? And please do tell me why Mr. Kosiur is the best choice? If someone can tell me, perhaps I would vote for him too...NOT!!

Kosiur, who is director of teen employment at the Boys and Girls Club

Unlike Mr. Amedore, who works in the private sector, Mr. Kosiur, as it states in his campaign flier which I received in the mail today, he quit his small business and is now working for the Boys and Girls Club. Big whoop! Who do you think pays his salary? They are all private donations! And a very safe, non competative, actual non-working job might I add. He surely could have kept his small business or worked somewhere in the private sector and DONATED his time to the Boys and Girls Club.

Mr. Amedore works in his own business AND donates his time an materials to charitable organizations.

No Kudos here for Mr. Kosiur!

Mr. Amedore JR., works for his daddy's business. Junior got his positon in the company through birth right.  Not by hard work and self accomplishment.  It doesn't make him a bad guy.....but I question his qualification to be a state rep.  I guess he couldn't be any worse than Tonko.

You are correct, but I believe 'his daddy' gave him a good foundation with good business and personal ethics. However, we will see how well it fairs in the political arena.

I was told by some folks in Schenectady that the boys/girls club is donations only. That is what I was told.
