Rotterdam has had a high water table as long as anyone can remember because there were ponds, one was Poutry which ran almost the length of Sunrise Blvd all the way to Bway, and the streams that supplied them. There was a stream, upper Becker's Brooke, which ran thru and along side Masullo Estates when the development was built. Over the years changes have been made to the terrain which made the situation worse, storm water from Netherlands Village draining into Masullo, a bridge on Guilderland Ave over the Thruway footings raised blocking water runoff, and fill placed across natural drainage ditches when nearby new homes were built. The accumulative effect leading to the water problem Masullo Estates faces today. When many of the developments in Rotterdam were built the builders would run the storm water drain pipes to areas where there was natural drainage as this was common practice. Over the years these drainage ditches have become filled with silt, tree limbs and trees, and leaves which block the water flow forcing the storm water runoff to seep into the groundwater raising the water table higher and into peoples basements. It's not one thing that's causing the water problems that Rotterdam faces and that's why a comp plan is needed and new codes written so that new homes built today won't have the same problems that we face today.

Shadow, I'm beginning to think that no one is smart enough to figure this out on either how to not only resolve the problem, but also to prevent it from happening again. Hasn't just about everyone looked at this whole drainage mess for YEARS!! And they are still pretty much back to square one. Ohhhhh maybe square two!

One of the largest engineering firms who did a quick study when the bids went out for a firm to tell Rotterdam how to solve the water problem in Masullo Estates sent back a reply that stated Rotterdam didn't have enough money to fix the problem. The firm wanted to do a hydrological study to find out how much water they were dealing with and as we all know that costs a lot of money. There was talk of installing pumps but that was expensive to put in and maintain. Everything that's being done now is in hopes of making the water problems in Masullo Estates bearable and lower the water table enough to keep basements dry most of the time except in periods of heavy prolonged rain. Nobody is sure how much this will help but it's got to be better than it is right now.

Ok, Goebels.

First we have to flood the 9th ward in New Orleans then flood Rotterdam........

Finally.  According to the DRAFT Town Board Agenda being considered at tonight's agenda meeting:

Res. No.
140.09 Call for bids to be opened on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. for drainage
infrastructure, reconstruction, and paving of Masullo Boulevard, West Lucille Lane, East
Lucille Lane, and Christine Lane, located in the Masullo Estates area of the Town of
Rotterdam.

Is it possible this is finally occurring? Our persistence may not have been in vain after all.

Once again, your post prompts me to say 'What???'

A.  This was a positive step forward.
B.  They didn't cause the problem.
C.  I certainly have never characterized them as "bums" and can't foresee ever doing so.

If I have a gripe, it is that we have proceeded more slowly than anticipated.  We'll get there, I hope.

well you have to admit that after they stabbed your back and didnt let you run over there that you need to throw them all out and get in the demos so they can fix things and maybe run you for office to in the future.

Nope.  I don't see it that way at all.  I don't think I can realistically expect to receive the party nomination with the many qualified candidates they had to choose from - but I can satisfy my desire to serve by trying an independent run in light of the fact I wasn't chosen.  I'm hoping I have broader appeal to the voters than the party thinks I might have.  As far as the Democrats go...we'll see who they run...and what they stand for.  Ultimately, the voters will make the selection and we'll all have to hope they got it right.

I wouldnt get your hopes up there Michael the Arch Angel.. This town board has the tendancy
of blowing smoke than pulling the plug after election day.  I suggest you not post your
obvious naivate' for bloated ego Steve and his minnions to think they pulled the wool over you and the Masullo's residents eyes.  Keep the pressure on and I agree that you do not have
what it takes to be a potential elected official.  You're way too far up Johnny Boy Mertz' coolie.

And this is why we continue to have the same recycled people in office. Because of people like pdq.

Michael, you clearly have a mind and a vision of your own. As long as you stay clear of the political parties you will do just fine. You have a lot of support out there.
