The houses over on Bluebird Lane and Horizon Blvd are all new houses, the development was approved by the town, the development went thru an engineering study and the water problems still exist. The problem as I see it is because doing a proper study of any area of a development is very costly the town won't do it and they won't force the developers to do it either. If a developer wants to build 161 houses and 100 condos why won't the town make the builder do the hydrological study that NYS suggests that they do first. Could this be the good ole boys club in action again or still?

I agree with you shadow....it should be the developer's responsibility to have this study and they should then be held accountable if a problem exists in the future. The hydrological test should now and always have been mandatory as so much of the land in Rotterdam is wetlands. I like the word 'wetlands'....couldn't that just mean 'swamp'? Rotterdam was built on a swamp!!!!! There...I said it!

Can we rename this topic on account of today's storms?   I was thinking "A River Runs Through It."

We have one of those big blue rubber type pools in our back yard. And if it rains this hard a few more times, it will overflow and we wil have a "river running though our back yard" for sure.

Very true Senders people won't spend the money to put in sewers because it'll cost too much. The only way we'll ever get sewers is if the town can get some grant money to help ofset the cost of the project. Many in thi town have replaced their septic systems and now only have to pay $100 every 3 years as apposed to paying $1000 a year for the next 30 years for a bond. Many residents say that they are retired and on fixed incomes and can't afford to pay for sewers. I've heard every excuse that you can think of and the residents have voted down every sewer project proposed in the last few years, ie Highbridge Road when Time Warner was built and they had a chance to joint the sewer district that was being formed. It's all about the money!!!

Shadow, excellent point about obtaining some grants. But how is republican majority Rotterdam going to get anythig from the democratic everything? That is why we need Mr. Amedore voted in. We will surely get nothing if Kosuir is elected! Just a statewide sex offender law.

Rotterdam has a person who's job it is to try to get grant money for the town. The last big grant that Rotterdam received was for the flood abatement for Sunrise Blvd that Carolina Lazzari got. I don't remember where the money to pave the roads came from but I never heard it called a grant. It's much harder for a Republican Town to get grants from a Democratic controled state/county/city but there must be a way to get some money from them. If enough of us voice our displeasure with them and they feel like they may lose an election then there may be some money for infrastructure for us.

I don't know if I am spelling his name correctly, but I think that Mr. Griesmer was going to or either got some grants for Rotterdam.

Mikes job is not to seek grants  as he has too much to do now that he doesn't know which direction he is going in most of the time. Every time the town needs to fill a position to satisfy a state mandate Mike fills it. He was just named their stormwater person for the town until they can find someone else to do it.

Quoted from Shadow
I drove by Masullo Estates yesterday and their roads still look like a washboard, full of patches, and no work being done on the sewers. I know for a fact that the people who live there are sick and tired of hearing we're working on the problem or we have to do another study. There's a few people over there that won't be voting for some of the incumbents.

I do know that this present town board did, in fact, promise Masullo Estates that 'something' would be done. I will say one thing...and that is the present town board AT LEAST addressed the issue and took it to another level than any of the past administrations did. Now I really don't know the updated particulars about Masullo's, but I can believe that these residents are truly  sick and tired of this entire fiasco! Let's face it...these people are 'stuck'. They either have to live this way or sell their house (if they can) and take a loss. And neither of those choices are ones that any of us would want.

The last thing that I heard was that it was going to take a super majority vote for the Masullo Estates Project to go forward and what's the chances of getting a super majority right now from the Town Board. I think that the residents are just getting frustrated and just want something done to fix the problem.
