A friend of mine lives in Guilderland. One of his Grandparents died, which had a different last name than his. The town actually sent a card to his home within a week of the funeral, expressing their condolences and letting him know if he needs anything to call the town. I'm not suggesting that Rotterdam do the same, I believe it's a waste of tax dollars. But I do appreciate the efficiency and sense of service the town provides for it's residents. I have simple expectations for the Rotterdam's Assessors office. I would like to file a tax document and feel confident that it's going to be handled properly without having to follow up behind the Assessor and its staff to make sure it gets done.
I heard a juicy rumor that Tomassone's mother filed a complaint with the NYS Office of Real Property because Macejka wouldn't accept her STAR application well after the filing date of March 1. She tried to say she filed on time but there was no indication that she filed it in a timely fashion (as the report states.)
The way the report reads is Tomassone's brother Dan filed a grievence in 2006 on the parents home and lost thru the BAR and Small Claims. The recorded transcript infers that the Tomassone's wanted Macejka to accept the STAR after the filing deadline as a way to settle what they percieved as an unfair assessment.
My source tells me the Reps are shaking in their boots once this explosive transcript is released. Sounds like your trying to infer the same with your situation?? Or maybe Cicero is the actual complaintant??? But then again getting by on your family name is history right???

I'm just someone trying to to get my STAR processed in a timely manner. No complaints filed, just some observations of the prior Assessor's incompetence. I witnessed the clerk pull the STAR application from the filed cabinet that I filed 2 month prior. No disputing when I filed, or where the fault lies. So there is no sweat commin off of my brow. I could have cared less whether Macejika stayed or got replaced. I don't deal with the assessor's office enough to care. I just offered the few interactions I had with the Assessors office while Macejika was in charge.
The Democrats are attempting to fabricate another scandal. No ideas......just mudslinging.

While we are at it we WILL open for the investigation the entire dysfuncitonal, corrupt, democratic dictatorship party. We will start with Quail and Cervera along with Stratton, the entire city council, Gillen and the entire Metroplex, which should be abolished, Suzie Savage, Gardener, Kosiur, Dagostino and the rest of the county legislature and every non-profit organization, friend, business and family member that has benefited at the expense of the taxpayers.

ROTTERDAM Schalmont says tax deal will cost school $6 million BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Schalmont school officials are disputing the estimates of cost to the district of a 15-year tax deal the Rotterdam Industrial Development Agency has made with the SI Group. Town offi cials stand by the deal. District administrators claim the figures provided by the IDA don’t portray the true tax impact the SI Group’s agreement will have on Schalmont’s budget starting next year. Business Administrator Mark Kellett said the deal will create an estimated $6.36 million in lost revenues through the duration of the agreement, which is a payment in lieu of taxes, or PILOT, agreement. “[The SI Group] got everything they could have dreamt of in a tax reduction,” he said. In 2007, Kellett said the Niskayuna-based chemical manufacturer paid $631,805 in school taxes on its 40-acre manufacturing facility off Main Street in Rotterdam Junction. Using this figure and estimating a modest 4 percent annual increase in school tax rate, the district would have collected about $12.6 million before the PILOT agreement was implemented, he said. “SI got just what they wanted,” he said. “They got a tax cap.” Under the conditions of the PILOT agreement, the company will pay about $11.5 million in town, county and school taxes over 15 years, about two-thirds of which will go to Schalmont. The agreement also calls for the SI Group to make an annual $30,000 contribution to the district, for a total of $450,000 through the period. SI also agreed to drop any litigation with Rotterdam over its property assessment and agreed to allow the town to build a water tower on company-owned land. Last month’s agreement cancels out a 13-year PILOT agreement signed in 2005, which paid Schalmont roughly $15,000 annually for improvements made to SI’s Rotterdam Junction property but not reflected in its assessment. IDA Attorney Gerard Parisi said the district’s estimates fail to include a 2002 state Supreme Court decision that set the property value of SI’s plant at $18 million. He said the town’s outdated equalization rate coupled with last year’s revaluation improperly boosted the property to its present $31 million assessment. “They went up to $31 million for no reason,” he said. Parisi said a retroactive courtordered reduction of the company’s assessment would be inevitable, meaning the district would have eventually faced repaying part of the taxes. By working out the PILOT agreement, he said, the town saved up to $150,000 in legal fees and the school won’t face the near certainty of a hefty repayment. “It’s a falsely inflated number they’re getting now, but they’d lose that anyway,” he said. In total, Parisi said, the PILOT agreement details will result in no additional taxes being levied on residents. Also, he said the agreement means the company will continue to pay taxes in Rotterdam, rather than moving its plant and 182 jobs elsewhere. “There is no cost to the taxpayers,” he said. “I cant be more clear about that.” Kellett doesn’t agree. “One of our major pieces of commercial property just got its taxes cut in half,” he said. “We don’t know what our revenues will be yet to see the result of this.”
Rotterdam IDA meeting on deal with SI was held illegally
On Feb. 26, the Rotterdam Industrial Development Agency (RIDA) had a purported public hearing on a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) for the SI [Schenectady International] Group Inc. Unfortunately, the PILOT, which was mailed out to interested agencies, did not include the public. The PILOT agreement was not available at town hall, as listed in the legal notice for the meeting, and wasn’t provided when a trip was made to RIDA legal counsel. It was also not available at the public hearing for review or comment. When questions were asked by the public, they were told it wasn’t a question-and-answer hearing, just a comment period. How can the public comment on something it did not have access to? After the public hearing portion of the meeting, the RIDA board went into executive session without giving a reason. The Gazette and [Rotterdam] Spotlight reporters were in attendance when this occurred. While the public waited, the RIDA board had negotiations with executives of the SI Group Inc. behind closed doors. When the board came out of executive session 45 minutes later, the public was informed the executive session was for litigation purposes. The RIDA has no outstanding certiorari agreements with the SI Group, the town of Rotterdam does. This executive session was not legal and clearly violated the open meetings law. The public was then informed that the SI Group had made several new concessions regarding the PILOT agreement. Since the original PILOT will be altered based on these new concessions, this public hearing should be null and void and a new public hearing called.
