Hmmmm...Mr. Steve Miller is from Glenville. He clearly is not happy with the Walmart in his area. But then again...who is?

Trouble just seems to follow all Walmart stores and anyone who lives near a Walmart Store is never happy with it.

Man, they started the remodel of the Rotterdam store, customers can't find anything, but neither can the employees!  This guy in one department, I've seen him there for a few years it seems, he looked like he was wandering around aimlessly as he tried to find a product I was looking for.

Now, wondering, how did they get the building permit?  Well, maybe it was only the fence that needed to be addressed and not the dead trees.

One other thing, I seem to notice a grocery section.  Wasn't there a prohibition against them having groceries and that was why they couldnt' put a supercenter in that location?

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

That's nothing new.
All the employees look like that all of the time.

Yes, because of Hannaford.
It was in their lease.
They sold food there anyways.
Except meat products.

That Walmart has always had a small grocery section there but they only supply a limited supply of grocery items.

They carried the main staple items. Honestly, you could go into just about any major drug store today and purchase the same things. I guess they all want a piece of the pie, huh?

Actually, look at Price Chopper. A supposed 'grocery store' can now fill your prescriptions, sell you a mop to clean your floor, sell you dishes to eat off of, holiday decorations, video rentals, design your wedding cake and plan your floral arrangements for your wedding. The economic landscape has clearly changed.

Liberals’ hatred of Wal-Mart not rational

This is regarding the Aug. 20 letter by Steve Miller, “Wal-mart needs to be taught a lesson.”
Mr. Miller states that Wal-Mart pays “poverty-level wages.” I applied for a job at Wal-Mart several years ago, and although I took another job instead, as I recall the wages were in line with most other entry-level positions. Certainly, no one is forced to work at Wal-Mart.
In January 2006 a group, whose name I don’t recall, something like “We Hate Wal-Mart,” tried to keep Wal-Mart from opening a store in Chicago. When the store did open, they were hiring for 300 positions; they had 25,000 applicants. Mr. Miller states that Wal-Mart “... earns an ‘F’ for breaking child labor laws,” with no specifics to back this up. Of course, all large corporations have labor squabbles of one sort or another from time to time, and being the largest, Wal-Mart has certainly had its share.
Mr. Miller says that Wal-Mart is guilty of “... pushing its health care costs onto taxpayers” since less than half of its workers have company-provided health care. He states that in 2005 taxpayers had to pay $1.37 billion to cover the cost of health care for Wal-Mart employees. How much would it cost the taxpayers in welfare and other costs if these people weren’t employed? Most employers these days don’t provide health care; Wal-Mart certainly isn’t alone. As for the “mom and pop” businesses that the Wal-Mart foes always claim have been “destroyed” by Wal-Mart, how many of them do you think provided health care? How about none? I fail to see how our tax dollars are going to enrich Wal-Mart. Much more is spent on handouts to folks who are under the impression that the Declaration of Independence states that their “inalienable rights” include “three hots and a cot.”
I happened to be at our local Wal-Mart recently and noticed that a fellow who used to work in the hardware department is now its supervisor. If he was working for a “mom and pop” hardware store, he would just be another employee forever — unless he happened to be a family member. Wal-Mart gives its employees an opportunity to move up.
Wal-Mart, McDonald’s and Home Depot, among others, have incurred the wrath of liberals because they are American success stories; built on a foundation of hard work.

Wal-Mart considers new store formats
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Monday it is considering new store sizes and types in the U.S. market but played down the possibility of acquisitions as it faces slowing sales growth at its older stores and new competition from British rival Tesco PLC.
The world’s largest retailer said it is hiring managers for a team to consider new formats besides the retailer’s four established U.S. formats: Wal-Mart discount stores, Supercenters that combine groceries and general merchandise, Sam’s Club membership stores and Neighborhood Market grocery stores.
One of the job ads on Wal-Mart’s Web site refers to potential mergers and acquisitions, but Wal-Mart played down the possibility it might buy existing businesses rather than develop its own.
Analysts said it makes sense for Wal-Mart to look at new formats, such as smaller stores, but that the Bentonville. Ark.-based retailer is not likely to go on an acquisition spree.

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Police said a bomb threat at a Wal-Mart in Newport was part of a broader money scheme that has hit other businesses around the country.

Sgt. James Quinn of the Newport police said a man called the store around 7 a.m. threatening a bomb and demanding that the store wire $10,000 to an account. Quinn said the store sent the money.

Police have traced the money, but won't say where the account is held. Quinn said the call came from a land line out of state, but he wouldn't say from where.

Requests for comment to Wal-Mart's corporate office were not immediately returned.

After the threat, about 25 employees were evacuated. Police have swept the building and found nothing.

Well, the Wal-Mart on Altamont Ave is sporting a new look! I must say, the new shade of 'beige' they painted the building looks a whole lot better than that gun metal grey color. It really does appear neater looking. I mean hey, ya gotta give credit where credit is do!
