DVR you have no idea how many times that the old volunteer squad was at Ellis Hospital, having just dropped off a patient, and got another call in Rotterdam and had to drive back up from the city. Nobody can promise to always have an ambulance at any given place because as the saying goes stuff happens. Multi-car accidents sometimes require more than one ambulance and if another call comes in then what, do you blame the squad for not having a rig to answer the call. One incident does not create a pattern. Unless you have been involved with what can happen on these calls you can't really understand the problems they face.

The fact is that Mohawk PROMISED to have ambulances IN the City of Albany .. but NONE were.
The closest was on I-787 coming from Troy.
So - Mohawk can promise that they will have 2 ambulances in Rotterdam at all times .. but there
record shows that they don't always keep their promises.  If you want to take the chance of losing
someone's life because of an unkept promise .. then by all means .. privatize.   I prefer to keep REMS

as an apparent politician you put alot of weight on promises.......as for REMS.....they can go private ANY TIME they choose....just not
with my $$ and off my back.......as for the accident and response.....educate the plebs........there's a whole public school system...
and while we are at it teach them how delicate their bodies are......not just scare tactics but real stuff that even inhabits everyday
life like HAVING THE CHOICE TO EAT TRANSFATS OR NOT........

my point is that Mohawk has made promises to other municipalities in the past -- promises to have a
minimum number of ambulance within the municipality at all times -- for some reason they fail to
follow through on keeping that promise.
at least with REMS we know they will be IN Rotterdam and NOT answering calls in Troy or God knows
where.

Oh? And what about times they're "both" tied up transporting to the city - or Albany Med - or in Duanesburg waiting for AirFlight?

It doesn't matter.....if they are tied up....they are tied up.....there are no promises in accidents.....mohawk is in schenectady...not
far....and why wouldn't they just purchase the current REMS buildings and use them???? Again...I see no reason for a town
subsidized ride to the hospital.....and right now that is what they do..BLS....and that's a good thing but we have how many volunteer
fire dept/police paramedics and first responders not including the REMS?

The smoke is in the taxing district of which it can be recinded when the town decides it cant afford it and then handing it over to
the current folks as a nice new turn-key........

or maybe in order to make the county nursing home more palatable, having the REMS would boost that....on our backs.....

REMS and the County Nursing Home are completely different topics.   As for the rest of your statement -
you aren't making much sense.

I work in a nursing home and ambulance service is vital.....are the leaders researching and do they know NOW how that national healthcare (farce) will
affect the billing of such things as ambulance transportation......companies are filtering and researching and setting up for the changes coming....
REMS is too aren't they? is the town?

as for understanding what the ambulance people face - while I have never been on an ambulance
squad .. my grandfather  (who founded the volunteer squad in another town in NY) and my uncle were
both volunteers.   My grandfather died of a heart attack after answering a call.   So I know that the
people of REMS - even if not all volunteers anymore - are doing a great thing and providing a great
service.

No it's not there are always extenuating circumstances that can happen when there are bad accidents or conditions that require an ambulance to be out of it's normal district. I was on a call one time that had the ambulance tied up for 5 hours what would happen if another call came in?

EXACTLY!! It is the usual 'fear rhetoric'!

BOTTOM LINE...........Mohawk will service rotterdam better and at no cost to rotterdam taxpayers!!! It is clearly a no brainer here folks. If REMS wants a piece of the action....then go 'private' and make it self sustaining without the taxpayer's money and put it out for bid!!

You don't create a TAXING DISTRICT when rotterdam clearly does not have to. That is ridiculous! But be ready for the 'fear rhetoric' from the left!

Since I am not "from the left", I can say that there is NO guarantee that Mohawk will service Rotterdam
better.    10 cents per thousand is a SMALL price to pay for a local service that saves lives.
