Deviate from exactly what? And who on rotterdam's town board will even know if any of them deviated or not? And who will decide who is disqualified and who isn't.

The ems proposals are in...REMS and Mohawk Ambulance are the only bidders.
Present:
Chief Hamilton...opened sealed proposals. Michelle Golden Wayne Calder David (? forgot his last name, one of the new attorneys from the Porco firm) Andy Brick/Chris (representing Mohawk) Joe Vanderwerker and two REMS EMTs Dean Ronca, FD 2 (? - the one on Curry Road next to the old Kmart plaza)
TJ Hooker conspicuously absent.
Brick and Chris B. were pouring over copies of REMS proposal in Council Chamber.
Joe V. warned me that I "better watch what I say"...I told him everything printed can be confirmed...Ronca reminded him that their attorney told them not to talk...Chief Hamilton observed the exchange.
FDG and BG arrived right after the uneventful opening of the bids...five copies of each for Supervisor and four Board Members
Have not had a chance to compare proposals but they are available at Clerk's office.

Yes...anyone can FOIL for them. I am posting REMS RFP...heavily laced with irrelevant statements...some very misleading.
I will FOIL for the Mohawk proposal and post it as soon as I can scan a copy...probably tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, in a brief side by side comparison, Mohawk has the better offer.
They will dedicate two ambulances to the Town...one permanently stationed in Town and another roaming the Town...with a fleet of more than 30 ambulances for all back up necessary. REMS will only commit one ambulance to the Town (yet they are currently the first THREE on the dispatch list).
REMS wants a fee for ALS billing that will average about $8,500 per year, based on ALS call volume. Mohawk will retain nothing and reimburse the Town 100% of all ALS collections.
There is also the issue of property taxes...Mohawk would be a property taxpayer, REMS is not.
Sorry for the delay...I had to contact the administrator to allow an attachment. As soon as I get the clearance I'll post the REMS RFP...should be in a couple of hours.
So if I'm reading this correctly.......rems is going to reimburse the town of rotterdam for the als calls....correct? BUT.... they will with hold $10/call for billing and administrative services????
Soooooooo....rems will 'keep' $10/call that should rightfully be going back to the taxpayers.....correct?
In my world........the rotterdam taxpayers will still be paying for rems....just through the back door...under the guise of billing/admin fees. imho

First, including articles from the newspaper in the proposal in an attempt to damage the reputation of the other ambulance company. How low of them to use the unfortunate deaths of accident victims to secure a bid. Especially when Mohawk was responding to calls that REMS would never respond to because they're BLS. REMS doesn't respond to life or death emergency calls without accompanied by Rotterdam Paramedics OR,,,guess who?? MOHAWK AMBULANCE. REMS are doing some armchair quarterbacking wouldn't you say?
Second, is it me or does Rotterdam have a $hit load of fire department?
And wouldn't that be considered 'marketing'? Something that wasn't going to be allowed?
Mohawk is used as the 'standard for the state'. They are a well oiled machine and rotterdamians should feel secure in knowing Mohawk would be their 1st choice in ambulance service...IF.....the rotterdam town board should give them the bid. I know....I know...they aren't part of rotterdam's good ole boys club....but there are rotterdamians that work for mohawk as well.
And yes cicero........there are MANY fire dept's in rotterdam. Almost on every street corner!

As expected, Mohawk Ambulance and Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services Inc. were the only basic life support providers to answer the request for proposals issued by the town last week. Both companies are offering to provide around-the-clock ambulance service in the town at no cost to taxpayers through a two-year contract. But the for-profit Mohawk Ambulance is also offering a free-of-charge billing service to collect fees for the town whenever the town’s paramedic service answers a call. “Mohawk understands the town has an interest in collecting and retaining these [advanced life support] fees,” spokesman Tom Nardacci said Wednesday. “They want to do what they can do to help the town maximize that.” REMS also offered a billing service to collect paramedic fees, but the nonprofi t ambulance company would assess the town a $10 fee for each call that is billed. Frank Salamone, an attorney representing REMS, questioned why Mohawk is now offering to bill paramedic calls for free.
