wow, okay, it has offically been 4 weeks, and nobody has posted it, nor mentioned it!   Four weeks since town residents were mailed a letter from Rotterdam Ambulance, that letter told how the current majority, specifically John Mertz was hurting public safety, by playing politics with the ems merger.  Bum, senders, bigK, all of you have seen it and yet no comment.  I betcha if it said Diane Marco was a roadblock to a merger and a sucessful running of the town ambulance, it would have been posted all over this site.  Put politics aside, right is right, wrong is wrong.  The letter said how Signore was a supporter of EMS, and gave some praise to Tommasone, but it clearly pointed out that what John Mertz was doing is wrong...a bipartisan, factual mailer, that nobody wants to mention.  why?  Several of my fellow republicans, and yes, despite what you think, I am a republican, I just don't blindly support the party, have said that Mertz and Buchanon are way too much of a liabilty, and they need to go, I agree.  The town spent many dollars on studies as to what to do with town EMS, the study was released, and yet the town is still sitting on their hands, why?

Whether Mohawk employees are tickled or not, they remain there...employed. I can tell you that in the days before that vote, a fireman told me
REMS personnel does not want to work for Mohawk because "working for a private company sucks"...it's the good thing the majority of the work
force is more tolerant of the private sector....the real job creator....not government.

I can tell you that this is NOT the case for each and every employee of these organizations.  I actually know of people who ARE employed by both of these organizations, even before there was an issue with the vote.  They decided to do this due to the fact that they were already a volunteer firefighter in town and also a homeowner, who was looking to make enough money to pay his mortgage and his taxes.

What do I pay?
If Medicare covers your ambulance trip, you pay 20% of the
Medicare-approved amount, after you have met the yearly Part B
deductible.
In most cases, the ambulance company can’t charge you more than
20% of the Medicare-approved amount and any unmet Part B
deductible. What you pay may be different if you are transported
by a critical access hospital (CAH), or an entity that is owned and
operated by a CAH. All ambulance companies must accept the
Medicare-approved amount as payment in full.

The Ambulance Fee Schedule public use files for calendar years 2003 through 2011 are located in the Downloads section below.

Quoted Text
Sections 106(a), 106(b), and 106(c) of the Medicare and Medicaid Extenders Act of 2010 enacted in December of 2010 extended payment provisions of previous legislation including the Patient Protections and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA) and the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) which increased Ambulance Fee Schedule amounts by 2% for services originating in urban areas (as defined by the ZIP Code of the point of pickup) and by 3% for services originating in rural areas (again, as defined by the ZIP Code of the point of pickup). These provisions had been scheduled to expire on December 31, 2010.

The 2011 Ambulance Fee Schedule Public Use file found below reflects the mandated extensions effective for claims with dates of service beginning January 1, 2011.

I hear there is a resolution for Monday's agenda meeting to authorize the Supervisor to enter into an agreement for ems service...doesn't
say which service.

State law does not allow towns to provide their residents with fire protection as a municipal function. Instead, fire protection is provided either by a fire district or through creation of a fire protection district

Quoted Text
Are concerns over the cost and provision of fire protection new?
No, the provision of fire service has been evolving for some time, and concerns about the way it has historically been provided have been ongoing. In 1984 the National Fire Protection Association reported in the Fire Almanac that:
Fire District Expenditures
For Fiscal Year Ending 2006
Operations (salaries, benefits and contractual expenditures)
$385.4 M
Equipment & Capital Outlays
$169.5 M
Debt Service – Principal
$ 34.4 M
Debt Service – Interest
$ 11.8 M
Total Expenditures
$601.1 M
The fire service and the fire protection community in America have no choice but to find more cost effective approaches to delivering fire safety to the public. In the next twenty years, the fire service will be considering new, as well as time-proven steps to achieve these cost effective goals. There will be increased consolidation of fire departments and similar functions within municipalities. Functional consolidation will be much more widespread and will include central purchasing, central dispatching and alarm service, and the pooling of training, fire prevention and emergency medical services (EMS). . . Better utilization of manpower, increased productivity, a cost conscious citizenry, and management hardened

There are steps necessary to amend the local law regarding the medical board -- those steps are being taken.

Quite honestly, it is the Supervisor and the Deputy Supervisor who refuse to sign an interim contract with BOTH ambulance services to reimburse for ALS services.   Once again -- they refuse to do what is BEST for the residents of the town .. so that they can carry on their reign of vengeance and terror.
