“If we sold to them, we’d have to give fuel to any business,” he said Thursday.
Really? That's fallacious.
The fact is, the repercussions of a no vote for the taxing district should have been discussed between REMS and Rotterdam town officials WAY BEFORE January 6th. I'm not in favor of a taxing district for REMS - but to jepordize the operations of REMS while we choose our ambulance provider by cutting off the fuel is quite rash. IMO

I agree that the outcome of the vote should have been discussed in detail BEFORE the vote. But I agree with FDG's decision. REMS is a 'private' business now. Where does Mohawk get their fuel? Rotterdamians will still have ambulance coverage. REMS is still here and so is Mohawk.

I'm not saying I disagree with FDG's decision. I disagree with the 3 day notice. It's not like they can just pull up to gas stations and fill up and pay cash. They need time to set up credit accounts with gas stations around the area, and I'm pretty sure it will take longer than 3 days to be approved. It just seems as if FDG is putting unreasonable time tables on REMS unnecessarily. IMO
I'm sure that REMS' attorney can help if there is a credit issue for them. The vote was on Dec. 14. On Dec. 15, REMS should have begun to function as a 'private' business and FDG should have informed them of the fuel issue.
However, it shouldn't take long for REMS to apply for credit or perhaps become contracted with a company that will supply them fuel. I'm sure that rotterdamians won't be seeing REMS' ambulances riding around town 'unless' they are called out on an emergency. The ambulances should now be in their heated garages until they are needed. That would save them on fuel costs.IMHO

and excess mileage, wear and tear, and maitenance which is why they need replacement! No one would cruise around in a vehicle with a replacement cost of ~$75,000 dollars, one would minimize its use to prolong its useful life.
In appreciating the article REMS placed in the gazette......the measures they are proclaiming to take to continue their service, should have been started years ago. I commend their efforts, but again, it would have served them better if they had taken these steps years ago.
Question here......if Mohawk gets the contract for billing for ALS service, what does REMS do if they also use the rotterdam paramedics for ALS? Does REMS bill for that service and if so, where does that money go?

REMS would have to secure a contract for ALS billing and collection for use of our paramedics, just as Mohawk would also have to do... but the money is always supposed to be forwarded to the Town.
If the paramedics are deployed to assist in an ambulance call the Town collects nothing if the ems provider they assist has no contract with the Town.
Then if 2 ambulance services are using a town's ems service, such as rotterdam, then they should both have an ALS contract with that town....no? I mean, you shouldn't use ANY taxpaid service without reimbursement where applicable....right?
