The Schalmont survey under represented older residents -- many who support REMS and the tax district. The survey also seemed to over represent younger residents -- who don't tend to come out and vote.
It will be a close vote .. but I strongly believe that the YES vote will prevail.

Kevin! This is the part of the meeting I was trying to describe to you on the phone!!!! unbelievable!!!!! How can the public NOT see through this?
I just wish I could have been there. Looks like another fun night at the 3 ring circus. You can see who on that board wants REMS to be the provider and who doesn't.
Kevin, than I would suggest that you join the obama white house and put ALL private businesses into a taxing district. That way we, the government, can control 'who get's paid what' and 'what they can charge' and 'how much of a profit' they can make!!! It appears that you are clearly against capitalism and favor government control the same as ms. donovan!
Sorry to hear that you share the same anti-capitalistic ideology as ms donovan.
Remember Kevin, it was you who admitted that you were once for Walmart on the triangle.....but later came to your senses and realized you were wrong. Could this be the case again.....perhaps??
Must rotterdamians be reminded that Mohawk is not some fly by night ambulance service. They have been around for decades. They also have and can afford, THROUGH CAPITALISM, state of the art medical equipment, supplies, employees and service!
Only in backwards rotterdam! Poor bastards!
A. If I am wrong on this, as I previously saw that I was wrong about the Wal-Mart, then and only then, will I admit that I am wrong. Until then, I will stand by my convictions.
B. I am sorry that you think that I "share the same anti-capitalistic ideology as ms donovan." The fact is that I believe that the people of Rotterdam need to be able to have the service that they need no matter when it is needed. I would wonder if you were in the spot where you needed an ambulance and called 911, what would your reaction be when you are told that they need to send another ambulance from Downtown Schenectady since the one and only ambulance that is supposed to be covering the entire towns of Rotterdam and Princetown was already sent on a call to Rotterdam Junction or Duanesburg for mutual aid?
C. Mohawk may indeed not be a fly by night operation, but what they are suggesting for what they will supply to the residents of Rotterdam as a service is. If sounds as if the ambulance is going to be just driving around town waiting for something to happen, they won't even be using the property that REMS currently owns. They promised to have an ambulance in town, not at a specific location in town. Also, if the vote goes no, which by this would mean that it is not funding the district, therefore not funding REMS does not mean that REMS immediately closes and turns over the keys of it's buildings to Mohawk. If you think that this will immediately turn the property over to Mohawk and put it on the tax rolls, then I guess you believe that it is OK for the government, or in this case, the people through a vote, to tell a not-for-profit organization, that they can have the property ripped out of their hands by eminent domain? Well, if you say that REMS must hand over the property, then that's what you're saying.
So, if there's 2 bad ideas, which of these is the "less bad?"
Also, with the money coming out of the general budget, we have no voice when it comes to how REMS is being run. It is just like a blank check that is being written to them each month. This way, we will at least have the ability to bring to the floor changes, just like we have in the fire departments with fire commissioner meetings, etc. While this is something that I have not availed myself of at this time, I believe that adding the taxing district at this time will give the people more of a voice in how REMS is run than is currently in effect. The people will have more of a voice in a organization that their money has been supporting for some time while they were not allowed to speak in regards to how it was spent.

um
Bumble??? Oh...Bumble? what do you say about that? This is a TOTAL excuse for ppl to divide and conquer for their own agenda. Shame on all who adhere to this notion. This is about public safety at a low cost with total checks & balances.
I do believe that a very small percentage that are against this are just fooled and have not really thought about every aspect of this issue.
You said it tdonovan, a cost to the taxpayer when the taxpayer could be getting money paid to the town from MAS instead of having to pay for anything doesn't sound like a very good deal for the taxpayer to me.
Mohawk has a track record of making promises ... they promised the City of Albany that they would always have a minimum number of ambulances WITHIN that city's limits. Yet when that poor kid was hit by a car while riding his bicycle ----- the closest ambulance was on I-787 near Troy.
I am sure that the parents of that young boy would think that a 10 cents per thousand ambulance tax would be worth paying .. if they could have their son back home and alive today.

No Shadow What I am talking about is the agenda meetings being set at a time that is inconvenient for most working taxpayers.

What we need is for the Town Board to pass a resolution authorizing the Supervisor to sign an ALS contract with BOTH REMS and Mohawk .. there is absolutely no good reason why it hasn't been done sooner.

Kevin: I would like to direct you to my response to your earlier post, it is on pg. 144, response 2145-2169. I think it addresses the fatal flaws in your thinking. Regarding "C" above, I ran a mapquest route from the existing MAS station on State St. to the Knotty Pine Restaurant in Rotterdam Junction and compared the data with REMS from their Princetown Rd. and Cardiff Rd. locations. If you do this, you will see that the travel distances and times are all pretty comparable surprising as it may be. My recommendation to people who have a fear about ambulance response time is for them to move next to the emergency room of the local hospital where they most assuredly will be "safe"!
FACT There is NO subsidy in the 2011 budget for REMS ... and when the tax district passes on Tuesday -- the ambulance tax will NOT be used for salaries and other operational expenses.
FACT - All REMS needs is for the Town Board to authorize the Supervisor to sign an ALS contract for it to also reimburse the town $150,000 for ALS services.
FACT - There is no subsidy in the 2011 budget because it was adopted after this vote was scheduled to determine whether voters will be naive enough to give REMS tax revenue through other means...a budget appropriation will be unnecessary, as it always has been, whether the referendum passes or not.
FACT - A contract would only allow BILLING for ALS...not RETENTION of collected funds.REMS has never reimbursed the Town for ALS collections with or without a contract to bill for it...in REMS' case, without.
FACT - REMS attorney Frank Salamone stated at the agenda meeting on Monday that all of the [improperly] retained ALS funds were used for "operations"...for which there is no record, let alone accounting. This makes it hard to believe that tax proceeds will not be used for "operations" as well.

No accounting of ALS funds billed and received. No accountability for unknown amount of funds received. Any update on the requested external audit or the investigation by the NYS Attorney General?
