Everyone knows where I stand on the issue of absentee ballots ... so to keep responding to the issue is a waste of time.
The fact is that the referendum election has been set .. and although I don't agree with the lack of absentee ballots .... the referendum is still being held according to the letter of the law. There is no need to delay the vote.
Vote YES on December 14.

I understand where you stand on the issue of absentee ballots; I just don't understand how you and the Democrats can use the excuse of "law" to disenfranchise many of the elderly and military. I would think a person of principle like yourself, would stand firm in your beliefs in the democratic process. To hide behind "law" as a reason to compromise your democratic values is spineless. Especially when the “law” could be changed to include those homebound elderly and service men and women in this democratic process. IMO

Of course there is as NEED to delay the vote. It should be delayed to allow everyone to vote! Since it's your dem buddies that claim it's too cumbersome to have people vote by absentee because of a town law, then they can change the town law VERY VERY EASILY, and then postpone the vote til the weather is good.
Such an easy solution, too bad the dingbat dems can't figure it out
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.
MC and his ilk .. only want to delay the referendum vote because they know that public sentiment FAVORS a YES vote. Since the Nattering Nayboobs of Negativity know they will lose this referendum, they want to resort to tactics learned from the 1930's era Fascist training manuals written by their heroes.

Huh? If the public sentiment favors a yes vote for REMS, why would delaying the vote to allow those disenfranchised to use absentee ballots to vote change that? Wouldn't more time equal more support for REMS? DVOR, do you realize you use ZERO logic?

It is perfectly logical ... this issue has been drawn out for a number of years. In 9 days, the property owners will have their say on the taxing district ... and I am fully confident that the majority will vote YES. So ..once again .. unlike the anti-REMS crowd, I am not afraid of conducting the referendum as scheduled.

Big Upcoming Snowstorm for the East? By Meghan Evans, Meteorologist Dec 5, 2010; 11:35 PM ET
This may be the scene in portions of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast over the coming weeks, so you might want to get your shovels ready.
A storm that will take shape by the middle of December will cross the country and could end up developing into a major snowstorm for portions of the mid-Atlantic and New England.
There are different storm track scenarios at this point that mean the difference between mostly rain or a potential blizzard along the Interstate 95 corridor from Washington, D.C., to Boston.
So far, Chief Long Range Forecaster Joe Bastardi has been correct with the Winter Forecast for the Northeast with his prediction that late November to December would be cold and stormy for many.
According to Bastardi, "Repetitive cold waves and the threats of storms will keep hitting parts of the East in the weeks leading up to Christmas."
"One or two of these storms has the potential to become a major snowstorm for portions of the mid-Atlantic and New England, including the storm that may hit the East from December 12-14."
Expert Senior Meteorologist Henry Margusity has also been warning about how the cold pattern in the East could soon yield the season's first major snowstorm.
Scenario One: Major Snowstorm for Interior Northeast
In the first scenario, the storm could cause significant snowfall and wind across portions of the Midwest and the Ohio Valley states, impacting places like St. Louis, Chicago, and Indianapolis.
The storm would then cut across the interior Northeast in the first scenario. Mild air would be drawn into the I-95 corridor, making it a rainstorm for the big Northeast cities.
Meanwhile, the interior Northeast, perhaps from Pittsburgh to Buffalo would get a dumping of heavy, disruptive snow, because this region would lie on the cold, northwestern edge of the storm.
Nice job MT. Just asking but who conived this vote to coincide with Fire Dept. Commish votes? Jack Ruby?? Lee Harvey?? Just coincidental?? Don't think so. Mohon vote, commish votes and the REMS vote all within days. Hmmmmm
Mohonasen scheduled its vote AFTER the Rotterdam Town Board set the date for the Ambulance District referendum.
BTW -- How come nobody is complaining about or objecting to this Mohonasen referendum ?

Because Mohonasen hasn't spent YEARS conspiring to form an unnecessary tax district...because Mohonasen had no choice...they HAD to hold this vote to secure state funding...and because EVERYBODY IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT can vote.
Ron...the more you insist that the ambulance tax will pass, the more forum members and others will throw it in your face if it is defeated....and they aren't going to buy your excuses that blame it all on those evil capitalists.
The deck isn't stacked on the Mohon vote and the residents are set to vote it down unlike the REMS vote which has everything slanted toward REMS. The REMS signs tell the whole story, the signs say save REMS and that's a straight forward way of telling the taxpayer that they can't compete as a real business and without copious amounts of the taxpayers money every year they can't exist.

I'm not complaining about the Mohonasen referendum for one reason. It will not affect my taxes. I am a property owner in the town of Rotterdam, but not in Mohonasen school district. As it could be said, I don't have a dog in this fight. It appears that BOTH of these votes may have issues with the weather. Good thing the town thought ahead about how they were going to handle that.
Also, I wonder, for YEARS, the town has been pushing to have MFRH in town for the elderly specifically. Now, we all know that many of the elderly are snowbirds who fly south for the winter. I would say that most of the elderly would most likely be supporters of REMS in the vote. If they are, then why would they schedule the vote for a date when most have already flown south for the winter and not allow those people to vote in the election? I would expect for that reason to expect an extremely small number of people to be voting in the election a week from tomorrow. I say we should have absentee ballots and not schedule the vote for a time when there is a possibility of a weather issue (but maybe this town board didn't know there would be a possibility of snow in December, as most drivers in the northeast have never driven in the snow before).
I was in in Rotterdam today and saw the mix of signage on the lawns. Does Joe Citizen understand the Mohawk Ambulance Service business model. Hard billing versus soft billing. When MAS transports a tax payer that doesn't have health insurance, that tax payer will receive a bill for this service. When they don't have the ...ability to pay it, or have failed to make a payment arrangement, that person will be taken to collections. A dime per every $1,000.00 assessed. What's the average home assessment in Rotterdam, $150,00.00? The bill per year would be $15.00. For my service located in Columbia County, uninsured patients are billed 638.50 for a Basic Life Support call and 7.50 per loaded mile. We have different rates for Medicare patients that are determined by CMS, but if you are not Medicare eligible, you will not be charged that rate. And of course, different rates for when the Paramedic is treating the patient. Common Sense. Good luck! See More
