And just how much does REMS pay the town for fuel???
they always seem to be on the road looking for action
I don't know how much they pay, but I know that they had been behind quite a bit on that bill. Per the meeting the other night at District 6, they stated that they had paid the entire balance they were behind to the town for fuel by some time last year (I think it was in the summer, but I'm not sure). |

Rotterdam ambulance district worth supporting, but ...
On Dec. 14, the Rotterdam Town Board called for a townwide referendum on whether to establish an ambulance district for Rotterdam EMS [Emergency Medical Services]. The cost to taxpayers would be 10 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. REMS will only use this money to purchase ambulances and equipment in need of replacement. In addition, REMS has agreed to bill for ALS [advanced life support] services on behalf of town paramedics, to return an estimated $150,000 annually in revenue to offset the cost of the new district. I am in favor of creating this district. I believe the cost is very low in terms of the service provided. I think we should have REMS and stick in close proximity to the residents who need emergency service. My question begins with all the advertising about this vote? Why is there an absence of a thorough explanation about what we are voting on and what the repercussions are? The only letter attempting to explain what is going on was one I received from REMS. My other question regards absentee ballots. Why is the town holding a vote excluding absentee ballots? Is this not an exclusion of people who may just be more likely to use the service? I know plenty of elderly people who are housebound and cannot get out to vote. Even if the town is not required by law to have absentee ballots [for a referendum], how can we go forward with a vote that excludes many of our home-bound taxpayers?

So if you truely believe what you have written, that if the vote goes forward as it is currently set up, Rotterdam can expect the local Republican Party to file a lawsuit challenging the outcome of the election? Regardless whether if it passes or not, as the local GOP leader, you believe the way the referendum is set up, it disenfranchises a portion of the electorate(homebound) making the results invalid. |

What about the people who own property in rotterdam.........business/residential...........but aren't registered to vote in rotterdam because they live outside of rotterdam? Do they still get to vote because they are the property owners? |

Yes...but obviously they will have to travel to Rotterdam Town Hall. |

The "information" letter is a joke not even worth the cost of mailing it. If you didn't know any better, you would think the author, Joe Liccardi, was a first grader. |

Tippy - I remember reading that REMS buys something like $12,000 of gas per year...or maybe it was every six months. They do pay for it though. |

REMS reported last night that their gas is deducted from their monthly subsidy before they receive it. Since the public is financing their operation, taxpayers pay for their gas. |

each PROPERTY OWNER can vote ... that question was answered several months ago by the current Town Board and I believe the same question was asked and answered in August 2009, as well. |

Out of area homeowners - no absentee ballots. Military serving out of the area - no absentee ballots. Homebound (disabled) (most likely to use service) - no absentee ballots. MR & MRS? sorry, 1 vote, total even tho both incomes go to pay the tax bills Inclement Weather? - no alternative date set. Notice to residents? We're two weeks prior, not all residents have been informed. (so much for travel plans, holidays, vacations, etc) One voting location, make it a little more inconvenient $ investigation - called for, not completed. Guess we have to vote before we know what's in the bill.
This whole thing STINKS. There's no other single word for it, except may, FIXED.
