Personally I could care less which ambulance runs my a** to the hospital, however, I do not want to have to pay a tax for it. REMS needs a business manager, plain and simple, one who can make them solvent without the extra burden on the taxpayer.
VOTE NO TO THE TAXING DISTRICT! IT IS NOT WORTH IT! IT WILL DRIVE YOUR TAXES INTO OBLIVION! |

I agree. I support REMS, I don't support a taxing district to fund them. They already get paid from the insurance companies and the patrons, something that can't be said about Fire / Police service. |

Having your aunts dress in different outfits to get the same yes answer doesn't make an entire community saying yes to REMS Ron. Time to get those glasses checked!
Making stupid comments like you do -- does nothing to improve your poor reputation. |

I think that most people supporting the tax district are either REMS employees or friends and relatives of those that are.
I think you are wrong |

Please clarify. What do you mean, that the people who are against the taxing district are generally Mohawk employees? That people don't want the taxing district because they have an invested interest in Mohawk?
Yes, I would like clarification too. |

Ms Donovan, are you stating you support the taxing district? Is that the party line also? |

I don't think there is a particular "party line" on the referendum .. from either party.
I have spoken to many people ... Democrats, Republicans, and those not registered in either of those or any party --- and, so far, I have not met a single person who opposes the Tax District.

The main reason that the anti-REMS folks want to delay or cancel the vote -- is that they KNOW that most Rotterdam property owners do NOT want to privatize this vital public service.
Fortunately, we live in a democracy and on December 14 .. a majority of property owners will vote YES for the tax district and we will secure the future of REMS once and for all. |

Ya, about that mailing to every household / tax roll name. Did that ever happen? No? Didn't think so.
Fixed? Yep. |

I dont care about REMS.....folks it's another usurping of taxes and livelihoods made on the backs of taxes used as scare tactics and podium pucks year after year after year......
are we THAT ignorant to think that REMS or anyother namesake with a taxing district of it's own will NOT cost more as the years march on?
I have absolutely nothing against, nor do I know the REMS staff personally, and I dont care to, I'm sure they are well qualified and trained but the fact is the tax.....dont need it, dont want it.....let them be private....really really really private....no subsidies, no tax district.......
we cant afford mobile ER's......
when a country caters to the elder of itself it fails to move forward.....and that is what the politicos continue to do....use scare tactics about the poor poor elderly who may need a ride to the hospital......DUH!.....of course our odds of needing an ambulance increase as we age......so plan for it......personally dont whine about it.......
NO TAXING DISTRICT,,,,,GET OFF MY BACK |

I'm not Anti-REMS - as a matter of fact, if I needed an Ambulance, I would choose REMS. REMS could bill my health insurance, and whatever wasn't covered by my insurance, they could bill me the balance AND I WOULD GLADLY PAY FOR SERVICES RENDERED. But since I haven't been in the back of an ambulance in my life(but my insurance covers it), it would be insane for me to vote yes on creating a taxing district for a service I would be more than happy to pay for if I used it. This isn't anti-REMS - this is anti-unneccessary vote for unneccessary taxing district. If this vote isn't postponed - VOTE NO DECEMBER 14th. |

If the vote passes, it again is a clear indicator that Rotterdam continues to drink their septic tank water. No plausible argument has been provided to support the tax district, to the contrary, there is a mountain of evidence to vote it down, being: 1) No cost to residents. 2) Revenue provided to the Town via property taxes and a payment. 3) Advanced Life Saving certification vs. Basic Life Support. 4) A long standing history of successful performance in the industry. Those in opposition to the tax district cover a wide spectrum of residents: 1) Those who legitimately can't afford any more taxes due to job loss and/or the economy in general. 2) Those who can easily afford the tax but are in opposition to the government imposing this unnecessarily. 3) Those who understand the tax district equates to a loss of control over the tax rate and the tax district's budget. For people to live their lives fretting over whether an ambulance will get to them in 10 minutes or 15 minutes is equivalent to worrying when you will get struck by a meteorite! Typical mindset for Rotterdam sheeple . . . They don't know no difference! |

Ambulatory transport charges are covered for folks who purchase health insurance privately or through their employers. The majority of the cost is also paid for by Medicare. http://www.medicare.gov/Publications/Pubs/pdf/11021.pdfThe creation of the EMS tax district will result in most folks paying twice for the services; once to their insurer and once through their property taxes. So, what are the true objectives of creating such a tax district? - Providing coverage for the uninsured? - Funding more quasi-public sector jobs? - Redirecting revenues to the politically connected or other favored causes? |
