If this makes it to the scheduled vote, I hope you're right HH....but there is now a chance that it will be postponed again. I should
know for sure by the end of the week...but based on my discussion with FDG today, I think there is a good chance it will be postponed.

Meanwhile I FOILed for the cost and source of the list of property owners now in the Town's possession...and the receipts for ALS
collection...and the receipts of purchase for the REMS signs popping up all over town.

The receipts for ALS should be readily available through rotterdam's chief of police. The paramedics are under his supervision and he should have a record of when and where they were dispatched.

Yes...the RPD should have those records...but they won't have the billing records, since REMS did the billing...and they won't have a
record of payments received, because the collected funds went straight to REMS and were never turned over to the town, which would
have recorded those payments...so we don't even know if all of the ALS calls were billed and how many of which they actually collected.
At this point I'm not so sure that REMS didn't bill for services that were not even rendered....and all that time, they were receiving
more tax money in the form of "bailouts".

Maybe I can shed a little light on this subject.  We (the Town) are not allowed to bill for the ALS services provided by our paramedics, only the transporter (the ambulance) can bill.  We also cannot force a not-for-profit to bill for the service or for them to turn the billing over to us, it's not a revenue that we can properly obtain without a contract.  This issue wasn't a secret and there was a LOT of fighting going on between different parties over this for the last 5 or 6 years.  For those trying to provoke a response from us about Mertz, I can tell you that he was hounding the town comptroller constantly about REMS and what they owed the town and when.  Depending on what side you are on, Mertz was either your hero or an a$%hole.  If he didn't oppose the tax district, it would have been created by the Tommasone administration without a vote.  With the exception of Mertz, they were all in on it, just look after Tommasone lost REMS hired Parisi!  Mertz always seemed fair on this issue, supporting REMS but forced them to get their act together.  I can tell you that every week he would ask if REMS had paid their gas bill to the town, he said if they can't pay their gas bill then something else is going on, then we found out the IRS issue.  Mertz is out of office because of this issue.  Even though he may have been right and it is hard to find fault in any of his political positions, he clearly lacked the public relations skills and tact to be an elected offical.

Being right on a few issues doesn't make him a political genius, but for those who want to keep talking about him I will continue to say

"Mertz for President"  (at some point we'll agree that we need new faces and new blood in office)

so we did/are subsidizing a gumba business start.....what an F'en joke.......

I dont care about Mertz or anyother gumba that we continue to put into office in this town.......

I did see the signs that were purchased by someone and spread through town regarding the vote.  First, I think that it's great for someone to spread their ideas by these signs.  The only problem that I have is not only are some of these signs on government land, owned by the town, which in itself is illegal, the fire department, specifically District 2 on Curry Road has several of these signs on their lawn.

While I realize that each and every member of District 2 may be for a "yes" vote on the ambulance district, you CANNOT tell me that EVERY SINGLE PERSON who pays taxes to fund District 2 also supports the taxing district.  I believe these signs should be taken down immediately.

Also, how many of the other signs around town were put up without the approval of the owner of the property that they were placed on?

If anyone would like to see about getting some signs together to advertise the other way on this, first, I would suggest that we wait until the end of the week to order, if that is in fact when they may decide to postpone the vote or not.

I stopped in to First Class Products on Altamont Ave and it will cost approximately $700 to get 100 signs to put around town to counter the offense that has already been put up in the last couple days.  If anybody is interested in making a donation towards this or running the full on making of these signs from an in-town location, please contact me or post here.

Maybe we can do it anytime, as we don't have to put the date on them, as people will already know the date of the vote.

OMG...here we go with the signs again...what a waste of time and/or money...

BT - you said "MOHAWK = bill per call, reimburse ALS, REMS building back on tax rolls."

What gives you even the slightest inkling that REMS would turn over their property to Mohawk? I've heard quite the opposite through the grapevine. In fact, were Mohawk to get the contract, they'd be lucky to get a dirty hypodermic needle from REMS, much less any of the company's assets.

Can the Town sue REMS for repayment of the hundreds of thousands of dollars they collected from the annual budget and in ALS fees?  If the Town can, REMS assets could disappear to the highest bidder quite easily.  Not sure if this is legally possible.  Just a thought.

Actually, I never though of that.

On a positive note and this is the case, then REMS can obviously function on it's own without any extra funding from the taxpayers. Good for them!!

Opposition signs have already been secured and will be available if the vote is not postponed.

REMS has no property to turn over...their Cardiff Rd. building will probably be seized by the IRS, even though the Town has bailed
them out of delinquent mortgage payments to avoid foreclosures. REMS is currently operating out of the Princetown Rd. building,
which is owned by the Town, and which Mohawk would buy and put on the property tax roll. As for equipment, Mohawk will supply all
of their own equipment and supplies...at their own expense.
