The fact of the matter is that I was asked to help out while Michelle Golden was on her honeymoon.
In the end, I did help out by acting as clerk at the special town board meeting during her absence and by accomplishing a few other tasks.
If called upon again to help out, I will do so without hesitation. As for my personal plans to seek public office in the future -- let's just say that I know what my plans are -- no one posting here even has a clue what those plans are -- and I will leave it at that,

I still would like to know if the homebound and the military will be able to vote by absentee, or are they not important. Also, I would like to know whether all residents will have a voice And will polling sites be available throughout the town so that people can exercise their rights without hardship.
If there is a snowstorm, will they postpone it?
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

the only correct and honest thing to do is to let absentee ballots be allowed. Not allowing these people to vote, would be aslap in the face to all the disabled, elderly and our men and women in uniform!!! It is obviously a shameful act by rotterdam's government officials!
Also, having this vote, which clearly is not necessary, 11 days before Christmas is ludicrous!
but you poor rotterdamians are fighting a losing battle. This isn't a push just by the present liberal socialist leaders. Remember that your past rep administration not only supported it....they campaigned on it. Ask Paris and Salamone whattheir view is on rems!!!
There is a stake in this rems vote for both sides of the rotterdam isle!!

These are very good questions...and the Supervisor & TB members need to hear them OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Otherwise, the vote will go on as planned with only one polling site, no absentee ballots and no plan to postpone the vote due to inclement weather. MY ADVICE IS THAT YOU ATTEND THE NEXT TOWN BOARD MEETING AND STATE YOUR CONCERNS DURING PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR. CALL THE SUPERVISOR'S OFFICE AND ASK TO DISCUSS THIS WITH HIM. SEND E-MAILS TO THE BOARD MEMBERS.

Some rotterdamians are saying that REMS is going to dot their town with ELECTION SIGNS in a week or so.
Ridiculous!!!! IMHO

The bill for the first of what will be a string of related costs to hold this unnecessary vote has come due...the list of property owners in the Supervisor's office. I'm told it had to be obtained from the State and that the town had to pay for the list...which, as you may imagine, is extensive...the portion I saw filled a five ream paper box and that was only part of it.

Since the town now has the official list of eligible voters, there is plenty of time for qualifying those voters for absentees, as would be required...to deny this is a disenfranchisement of voters, IMO. I have always believed that voters should always have the choice of voting by absentee for whatever reasons they deem appropriate...in any vote or election...whether they are in town or not.
The voting date was intentional...it has always been the intention of the interested parties and REMS supporters to schedule the vote at a time when they will comprise the majority of turnout...first the week before the 4th of July...now the week before Christmas...all followed by a publicly stated promise to hold this vote in November. The Board claims to be putting a contingency plan in place should bad weather occur...the only problem is that we are not likely to know what the weather will be like until that day, or it is too close to provide ample notification of rescheduling to the public.
It was originally the intention of the previous administation to adopt this tax by resolution as part of a political arrangement in which they were stiffed...that is the only reason they decided that the public should decide...not five people trying to ram it through. The coinciding and growing opposition at the time was merely a convenient out of their end of the deal. The "push" here has always originated with one source - the interested parties. The only difference from one administration to the next is the extent to which they will cater to these groups....depending on what's in it for them.
I had a conversation about this with FDG the other day in which he claimed that they couldn't impose a tax without a vote by the people. Really? Does this mean that from now on whenever they want to raise taxes or institute new ones that taxpayers will vote on their own taxes? Oh and by the way, when "Confidential Secretary" Darlene-the-Carpetbagger eavesdropped on that conversation she barged in and told me FDG had a meeting and that I needed to go through her to speak with the Supervisor...I'll leave my response to that to your imagination.
