The cost of the ambulance district to support REMS' purchase of ambulance and other capital equipment
works out to just 5.5 cents a day for the average property owner.  That is a small price to pay to
keep a local provider of ambulance service that has done a great job and saved so many lives over the
years.

Good, I'll write a check for $20 - then vote for MAS.

I think that's what they call a teaser rate just to get people hooked just like the credit card companies do.

"too big to fail"  describes the large posterior regions of the Regressives who just sit around -- whining and
saying NO .. to everything.

Now, I see the vote will be held on December 14.

DECEMBER 14 !!!!!!!!!!!! ???????????????? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF????

Are the dems trying to cause a low turnout?    Why choose a date in winter when the weather could prevent some people from voting.  Do they even realize this is the holiday rush when people are busy shopping, decorating, baking, attending children's concerts, etc. etc.

And again, are they going to prohibit the homebound from voting?

And again, are those serving this country going to be prohibited from voting

Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

They will jamb this down the rotterdamians throats just like obama did the healthcare beast and how the county does Metroplex! There is a lot of talk about the absentee ballot......or should we say the lack there of!!!

It is a shame. Isn't this illegal???? If not, it should be! IMHO

It has always been the intention of the pro-tax culprits to schedule this unnecessary vote for an unnecessary tax at a time when
turnout will be low, and limited to the interested parties...i.e. REMS personnel and their friends, the firemen, unions, etc. That's why
I have always said that it would be scheduled in the middle of summer or near a major holiday...these would be the times most
conducive to such a turnout result. That's why the last vote was scheduled in the middle of summer vacation season just five days
before the 4th of July...with the absentee ballots originally promised being withheld at the last minute...just before the vote was
cancelled. Now it is the week before Christmas...with all of the distractions you mention...and the added threat of prohibitive driving
conditions....and, once again, without absentees for the homebound, military, property owners who live elsewhere, holiday travelers
out of town, etc.

I spoke with Matt Martin about this vote tonight. He confirmed that absentees will not be available...and it is now apparent that
while each property owner will only have one vote, and only if they're here to do it, they will be expected to pay the tax on each
of the properties they own. Martin said they would develop a contingency plan in the event of bad weather...but I don't know how we
can do that since we may not even know we'll have it until that day...with no recourse.

Martin further indicated that the Town plans to send eligible voters a letter...I asked if all of these variables would be mentioned in
this letter...he said they would, and I believe that he, and probably DiLeva and Parisi would expect that...but I know that doesn't
mean it will happen that way...given the well established pattern of deceptive tactics employed by some Board and administration
members. I would also guess that such a letter will probably be sent out weeks before the vote...which would also diminish turnout
since most will forget about it by the voting date. You can be assured that details about the alternative will not be included...which,
as far as I know, will fortunately be vigorously highlighted by Mohawk.

I suggested putting it off until the spring...which, by the way, is when other municipalities tend to do these things, precisely because
of the likelihood of maximum turnout that tends to defeat such proposals. At least that way, there would be time to qualify absentee
voters...FULLY inform the public...and it would eliminate all obstacles to accessibility.

WHAT are you bitchin' about? CHRISTMAS EVE WAS ALREADY BOOKED!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

I stand by my word.  Rotterdam doesn't need a referendum on an unnecessary taxing district.  A private company will service Rotterdam and generate revenue for the Town at the same time.  This REMS issue is fabricated for purely political reasons.  This is classic Rotterdam politics.  Just another way for the political party in power to buy votes with taxpayer money.

Yet another group of pigs (metaphorically speaking) working together with politicians to legally rob the taxpayers of Rotterdam in return for political support.

WAKE UP ROTTERDAM - IF THIS ADMINISTRATION FORCES AN UNNECESSARY VOTE ON DECEMBER 14TH, VOTE NO, THEN VOTE THEM ALL OUT WHEN THEIR SEATS ARE UP FOR ELECTION.

Since it was the Tomassone administration that FIRST proposed the ambulance tax district and, in fact, they had campaign lawnsigns with  "Save Our EMS" on them in both 2005 and 2009 --- I can hardly see how youcan accuse this administration of fabricating the issue for political reasons.
As for prostituting themselves for political power -  the previous administration and the GOP "worked every
street corner" of this town and beyond to get political power.

I'm not disagreeing with you on this point.  BOTH administrations are/were willing to stake claim to the REMS.  Both administrations are/were whoring themselves for political support. Republicans tried to do it in hopes of taking Conservative Party support away from the Democrats; the Democrats/Conservatives are doing it to expand Conservative Party influence and support.  After all, it's not costing them a dime to do it, it cost the taxpayers.
