See, there's the "fixed" mentality you accused me of coming up with. You seem to think it's a "done deal". Care to share something you know that the others might not?
It is just a suggestion -- the site is large enough to house the items that I listed .... the office space portion would have to be extended .. adding a Town Board-Justice Court-Meeting room

It would be a great place to house REMS too .. once the ambulance district is passed.

DVOR....you're right....we do need a bigger police facility.....since we dont plan on moving to the future and will allow the gang-bangers to come into our town and trash it(because the bar isn't set high) the police will be very busy......yeah, I can see it now.....no sewers, tons of graffiti, the aroma of septic effluent, the robberies and muggings....oh I love those rose colored glasses....how about you....
build something good like infrastructure....folks,,,do you not understand that your house is worth nothing without a well kept forward moving location.....we need sewers and GREAT planning.....the police are already there.....but another form of 'protection' comes as upkeep and bastions of business that attract those who like to shop there and keep a standard......
WE CAN DO THIS....WE HAVE NO CHOICE....and no thanks to those who always voted it down in the past....here we are....no wonder the young leave

Yeah, I have been there and NO, they don't need any upgrade. The taxpayers CAN'T AFFORD IT! The government needs to liv withing its means just ike people and businesses. You fix the roof if it leaks. You remodel if you have to add space. Stop trying to screw the taxpayers. A policeman's main office is his beat anyway. OUT IN THE PATROL CAR.

Where is the follow up story on this one? Or is this corrupt story going to be brushed under the rug and made that it never happened?????

John Purcell 10/07/10 Mohawk officials dispute content of widely circulated message
Schenectady County Legislator Anthony Jasenski, D-Rotterdam, denies sending out an e-mail that said there would be “political repercussions” in the town of Rotterdam if the Town Board ultimately decided to choose Mohawk Ambulance Service over Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services, or REMS.
The two companies are vying to provide emergency services to the town, with both making a case before the board at a Wednesday, Sept. 15, meeting. At that meeting, Jasenski gave the presentation for the not-for-profit REMS.
Thomas Nardacci, a spokesman for Mohawk, said that a couple of days after the presentations, he was forwarded an e-mail believed to have originated with Jasenski by someone who declined to be identified. The e-mail, dated Sunday, Sept. 19, was allegedly sent at 4:36 p.m. to unknown individuals and includes in the subject line “Referendum & REMS.” Nardacci provided a copy of the e-mail to The Spotlight.
Jasenski said he is not disputing the e-mail was sent from his account, but he said he did not personally sent the message.
“While I do send out and receive a lot of e-mails, I glanced through my files and was unable to locate any record of this specific e-mail being sent by me,” said Jasenski. “I am seriously quite alarmed by the possibility of someone sending out e-mails and attributing them to me, and I am very interested in finding out from Mr. Nardacci the exact circumstances of how he came to be in possession of an e-mail, allegedly sent from me and to me, and will be contacting him directly for whatever information he can provide about its source before deciding how to further proceed.”
Nardacci said he received an e-mail from Jasenski around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, asking him about the original e-mail and how he acquired it.
“He [Jasenski] was kind of being confrontational with me, but I am not going to respond to him directly,” said Nardacci.
James McPartlon, vice president of Mohawk, sent a letter to Town Supervisor Francis Del Gallo in the wake of the original e-mail to rebut information contained within it.
In McPartlon’s letter, he refers to the “widely circulated e-mail” that said “a ‘no’ vote doesn’t mean the town hands over the ambulance service to Mohawk Ambulance, because the Town of Rotterdam has no statutory authority to do so.”
McPartlon said that statement isn’t true because the Town Board can choose whomever they wish to provide EMS service for Rotterdam.
The contested e-mail also said that if the town were to dissolve REMS in favor of the for-profit Mohawk, there would be “political repercussions emanating from the other town emergency services providers and fire departments who unequivocally support continuing our community based ambulance service.”
Jasenski said he questioned the town’s authority to eliminate REMS.
“The only one that could take away their [REMS’] operating certificate is the New York State Department of Health,” he said.
Currently, Mohawk has approval from the New York State Department of Health to operate in all of Schenectady County, said McPartlon.

It's a non-issue. To suggest Mohawk is playing fairly in this game would be akin to saying there's no politics involved on Jasenski's end. Both sides are taking out all stops. By the time December rolls around, no one will really know what the hell is going on.
BTW, I'm still not sure exactly why residents aren't just calling for the town to fund REMS as it always has...through the budget. It might make things a lot easier on the anti-tax folk.
GB - Great point about the police. I don't exactly understand why they need a 'modern facility' to begin with. Besides, what the hell is the town going to do with all the former town facilities. Does anyone really think there's a market for that dump on Sunrise Blvd, or the one just like it on P-town rd?
They will be empty building that can't be sold and will be heated, conditioned and maintained at terrific expense. But government doesn't think about those downsides when they go on one of their wild spending adventures in self-agrandizement.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
No one is looking to take away REMS' operating certificate...people just don't want to finance their operation with an unnecessary tax. The Town is under no obligation to offer the unnecessary vote on it either. Jasenski's lame attempt to justify this tax simply by rehashing REMS' shaky financial history only strengthens the case against this tax...funny he never mentioned the town's lack of authority to reject REMS in his State of the REMS Address...because that is just not accurate...no more accurate than his grossly misleading statement that REMS is "self-sustaining".
On another note...the resolution assigning REMS as the ems provider should this unnecessary tax ever pass seems just as illegal to me as the illegality of designating REMS in the language of the original referendum itself....which is why it was not written into the referendum. We can also recall that the Supervisor originally stated that if that tax were approved, that the ems contract would go to BID...a process in which REMS could never compete...thus the latest attempt to deceptively secure tax proceeds for REMS.
First, the current police station building is too small and in bad condition. This was cited by officials from the state a few years back. The old Jefferson school building is at least 70 to 80 years old --- not energy efficient ... not really handicapped accessible ... and has some potential security issues.
Second, it does need to be upgraded .. citing the same opinion by state officials that said the building was too small and outdated.
Consolidating the Police Station, Town Hall, Justice Court, and Highway Department under ONE roof would save the town money in the long run. More efficient use of space -- for example the same room could be used for all meetings and court sessions .. instead of having 2 underutilized spaces.
Consolidating the previously mentioned facilities would allow the current facilities to be sold and put back on the property tax rolls. The only exception being the current town hall which could be easily converted into a multi-generational Community Center. Thus saving MORE money by recycling an existing building for the new town community center rather than building a new one.

Honestly, I have to agree with the above post by DVOR. I know, I know - already talked to my shrink, got an appt this afternoon for counseling. It doesn't happen often, but on THIS issue, he's on the money.
