Jefferson believed in very limited federal government -- but made exceptions --- like when he purchased
the Louisiana Territory -- a power not given expressly to the Federal government in the US Constitution.

He did make an exception with the Louisiana Purchase, but I think he would stroke if he were alive to see this Obamacare bill.  That's not an exception, that's a blatant violation of states right and individual right by our federal government.  To be truthful, neither Jefferson nor Jackson would support all these bailouts, and Obamacare.

The modern day democrap party has as much to do with Thomas Jefferson as Paul McCartney has to do with prime rib and bacon.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Ambulance provider closes and leaves 25 employees jobless.
By Trevor Jones, Berkshire Eagle Staff
Updated: 09/23/2010 10:31:01 AM EDT

Thursday September 23, 2010
PITTSFIELD -- Central Berkshire Ambulance, one of two ambulance companies operating in the city, ended its operations on Wednesday night, leaving its 25 employees jobless.

Central Berkshire Ambulance opened in July 2008 after organizers decided there was an adequate need for a provider to fill the void left by the closing of American Medical Response in 2007. Administrators invested more than $800,000 in equipment improvements since then, but with a lack of call volume and an inability to land a potential 911 responder contract with the city, the decision was made to close, according to Jim Regan, the company's general manager.Regan said informal surveys of local health care providers and city officials done in advance of Central Berkshire Ambulance's opening showed overwhelming support for a second company to compete with the city's existing provider, County Ambulance.

But Regan, who had more than a dozen years of experience operating ambulance companies, said the call volume was less than half of what had expected, leading to a revenue shortage that made operations untenable.

Regan blamed Berkshire Medical Center for the lack of business, saying the health care provider showed "absolutely no support" for the operation.

"We were virtually locked out of BMC," said Regan. "I'd never seen anything like that in my life."

Michael Leary, a BMC spokesman, disputed

those claims. The hospital, Leary said, has nothing to do with emergency dispatches for ambulance services, while clinical staff at BMC have invited all local ambulance companies to present what services they provide.
"We certainly don't have any stipulated ambulance services here at BMC," Leary said.

Regan also placed blame on the city's Ambulance Review Committee, which has been considering whether there should be one or two providers for the city and recently chose to have an open-bid process.

Central Berkshire Ambulance was the third choice in that process, behind County Ambulance and Wilmington-based Action Ambulance.

Regan called the decision to leave the door open to outside providers, as well as the year and a half that has been spent making a decision, "ridiculous." The cost of continuing to pursue the city contract, he added, was the final step in the decision to close the business.

Mayor James M. Ruberto did not comment on Regan's judgment of the committee, but said there is no timeline on any decision, and any decision will be based on the results of the bid process.

"We are in the process and we'll have more conversation on if we should have one or two providers," said Ruberto. "And if we do [choose two], clearly it will be the two with the highest grades for quality, care and experience."

The Thomas Jefferson days are long gone. Governments have become so large and so invasive and so controlling, that even the forefathers wouldn't recognize what they penned.

The great advantage of a publicly supported EMS provider like REMS ... is that we won't be left
without ambulance service should Mohawk Ambulance decide to end its operations a Central
Berkshire Ambulance did.

DVOR if the demand is there for an ambulance service one will be formed, it's called capitalism. Did you happen to notice that it cost $800,000 for new equipment and that didn't include salaries. We have too many public entities now that we can't afford and we sure don't need to form anymore. If changes happen in Congress in November there will be cut backs to Federal, state, and local governments so you better start getting used to it. No more pork projects, no more costly entitlements, and smaller government and November can't get here soon enough for me.

DVR is clearly not BUSINESS savy!!!!

If there wasn't a 'need'....... a business would not 'propose' or 'think' of moving into an area!!! That is CAPITALISM!!!!!!

Taxpayer monies should NEVER be encouraged to support or build a private business!!! Let CAPITALISM dictate the municipalities economy!!!

Quoted Text
A free market is unregulated supply and demand with little government interference in matters of trade. Price agreements are made by buyers and sellers and the market dictates supply and demand. Competition policies may exist in a free market capitalist system.

Quoted Text
Communism and socialism tend to be the most common forms of anti-capitalism discussed or proposed by critics of capitalism. While the two ideas often differ somewhat, the general idea is that the means of production and business should be owned publicly and not by private individuals. This is typically seen as government ownership and regulation of business, though it could also mean a public trust that represents the people and operates business. This type of anti-capitalism is often accompanied by ideas regarding the “redistribution of wealth” from the wealthy few to the many in poverty.

Various countries in different locations and times have tried communism and socialism, to varying degrees of effectiveness. While communism seeks to address injustices in ownership of wealth, it often still gives a great deal of power and wealth to the government. This has often replaced one form of wealthy upper class, with another, rather than putting the money and power into the hands of the people as communist philosophy suggests. Socialism is a form of anti-capitalism that functions much like communism, but is often more involved in social concerns such as public education and health care.

REMS is NOT a private business.   and as for your argument that a business wouldn't propose or
think of moving into an area if there wasn't a need ... how do you explain the FACT that Central
Berkshire Ambulance  THOUGHT.. and PROPOSED ,, and actually STARTED a business that then
failed.

EXACTLY!! People in schenectady county are already one of the highest taxed counties in the country. What brilliant mind could ever promote even one more red cent in taxes to the already over burdened tax payer?

People want to hear and see.........CUT SPENDING!!!

I agree, cut spending unlike Amedore who spent over $63,000 on mailers. That could probably paid for REMS or Mohawk for a few years easily...

No lies from MT!!!! REMS is STILL paying their back taxes WITH the already over burdened tax payer's money!!!! They might just as well be bankrupt!!!

It's a little too late for REMS! In a county that is the 19th highest taxed in the country,(thank you SUSAN SAVAGE), the over burdened taxpayer can NOT afford even one more penny in additional taxes!!!
