This type of referendum can not be put on the same ballot as a General Election -- that is the way the law is written in New York State. As for property owners (1 vote per property) only being allowed to vote -- that is also the way the state law is written .. as this is a vote Yes or No on a Tax District ... the same thing happens when they vote to create a sewer or a water district ... that is the way that the state wrote the law. As for the number of polling places and allowing absentee ballots - I believe that is up to the Town Board to decide when they write the resolution calling for the referendum.
They can't exclude people of a particular party or minorities -- if the person is a property owner they can vote.

look it up yourself ... it is the same law that would have governed the referendum if the previous administration had had the balls to keep the referendum on the calendar as they proposed to do in August 2009 ... that is the same law that would govern how the referendum is conducted now. |

You're the one who claims there's a law. Obviously, just regurgitated kool-aid or you'd have no problem presenting it |

The law was cited BOTH last year when the Tommasone administration proposed having a referendum on the matter .. and last Spring when the current administration proposed having a referendum on the matter. It IS the law .. Since you are not paying me $200 to do the research .. you can go to the library and look through those McKinney's Law Books .. and check it out yourself. I |

Rotterdam vote not necessarily winner-take-all
Rotterdam Supervisor Frank Del Gallo has done town residents a disservice by characterizing the impending referendum on whether to create a taxing district to support an ambulance service as a winner-take-all contest between Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services (REMS) and Mohawk Ambulance. He’s right that the still-unscheduled referendum may produce that result, but not necessarily so. Supporters of REMS want to create a taxing district so there will be a guaranteed revenue stream to support the money-losing transport service, while detractors want the town to contract with Mohawk Ambulance, which says it can provide the service without charge to the town. The town has been subsidizing REMS to the tune of roughly $10,000 per month, so even though it provides good service, some town residents like Mohawk’s plan better. ...............>>>>.................>>>>.................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r00902&AppName=1

Don't ask RS to go above and beyond and give you any help. He is clearly cheerleading for the team of ID10ts on the board, especially Bobby G who would love to tax the crap out of the residents. |

Actually -- there is a publc value in the ambulance ride .. if the patient dies, he/she can no longer pay income tax and other tax. So according to your argument, a publicly subsidized ambulance idea would help keep more taxpayers alive therefore .. it is a public value to pay for the ambulance ride.
Mohawk will keep them alive too...then they can pay for their own ride. |

Just go sit in the Ellis ER and then tell me who you would want to be your ambulance service....k? Check out those that are tax paid and check out the private service!! Come rotterdamians....it's time to get out of the dark ages here...k?
However.....I do think that rotterdam has just about the best EMS staff!!! |

I do my own research as an dedicated and informed town resident. I willingly share my information with friends --for my friends I will go above and beyond -- I don't consider MaryMagdalene and MobileTerminal to be among my friends .. so they can go do their own research or pay me $200 an hour to do it for them. as for the last 2 sentences .. I don't expect rational, factual statements from RepubliCAN'TS. |

I dont disagree...however,,,,having become unable to pay taxes, pay heat, phone food etc leads to the next logical step.....next person to purchase home and pay taxes......so move forward......not stagnant.....your rationale is just that personal and non-guaranteed.... Private ambulance, private problem/issue....the collection of taxes will ALWAYS happen just like death........so dont add to the sorrow of ones LIVING........nothing against the workers or REMS....but, there is no logic there.....if P then Q ONLY in government terms..... |

we already pay 5 cents per thousand of our Town Tax to support REMS .. the new tax district is only asking for 5 cents more per thousand -- I think 10 cents per assessed value is a bargain when we are talking about saving peoples' lives. |

yeah.....right now.....let's talk about future year/s.........it's not needed....it's NOT a guaranteed life saver...you know it and I know it....... what ever happened to having government as LAST RESORT......this is America.....the people own it without the rule of the elected... REMS is way to personal....... |

EXACTLY!! People in schenectady county are already one of the highest taxed counties in the country. What brilliant mind could ever promote even one more red cent in taxes to the already over burdened tax payer? People want to hear and see.........CUT SPENDING!!! |
