Well, from what I know, they've been working on the fields, down across from Larned's pit.  .

Nah...the place looks the same for the past couple months.  No progress.  Something must be up.  In the interim, if the project doesn't get underway soon, the little league will suffer again next year.

Does anyone know the status of the ball fields?   Is the sewer arrangement for the apartments holding this up?   I sort of remember asking this question about the same time last summer and here it is a year later and no progress.

First - the proposed ball-fields were never an issue for the Parks and Recreation Commission as the land is owned by the county and none of the parties approached the Parks and Recreation Commission on the matter.

Second - my understanding is that the ball-fields are being held up until the apartment proposal receives approval and that proposal hinges on the sewers and that is being worked out by the developers, the county and the town administration --- and is pretty much out of the Planning Commission's hands until some solution is worked out and they send the apartment proposal back to the Planning Commission.

You should see the letter going around written by LL parents. I think they know that the current 'leaders' of the LL are all political hacks who put politics and politicians ahead of the League. Well, when you believe liars then you are obviously going down a primrose path.

Because La Famiglia needs to make sure they get their cut, and they need to get the job done just before election day, which is not this year.

ROTTERDAM
Land sale clears hurdle
Army engineers OK property for new ball fields
BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

Land Schenectady County wants to purchase and turn over to the Rotterdam Little League has passed muster with the Army Corps of Engineers, which was checking for wetlands, county officials said.
“We’re delivering a buildable site to the Little League,” said Ray Gillen, county commissioner for economic development and planning.

Now, with that, I wish to share the body of an e-mail that I just received.  There is no signature on this, and by the way it was sent to me, I am sure that the person (who shall remain unnamed) who sent it to me isn't the originator.  That being said...

I wanted everyone who has anything to do with Rotterdam Little League to be aware of the issues that the league is facing. As many of you already know the fields on Princetown will become an apartment complex, leaving the league with only the Broadway Major Field.

Many of us assumed things were beginning in regards to the new fields. In fact there is nothing happening with the new complex. We are all helpless! We seem to be at the mercy of the town and I am sure other factors.

WE ALL need to get some answers and demand the town take action and start the fields. We have no other choice. We have 8 tball teams, 6 instructional teams, 6 farm teams and 5 minor teams that need fields to play on!!!! I am asking everyone who can make it to join together and show up at the town meeting that is being held this Wednesday, June 13th at 7:00pm. We ALL need to ask questions and demand answers. As of today, it certainly doesn't look good for the future of Rotterdam Little League!!!

(emphasis and paragraph breaks added by me)

While this is a very important issue, I have another meeting that I must attend at the same time, so I won't be there, but I am in full support of the Little League against the current regime, and all those who have let it get this far, Democrat, Republican and Conservative, of which we have had one of each as our Supervisor during this time.

Rotterdam's present administration has clearly displayed the fact that NOTHING will be discussed in public!! NOTHING!!

If the gazetto did some investigative reporting, like they are suppose to......there would be no unanswered questions....yes?

and Channel 6, 13.

The families associated with the Little League need to rally the troops.   What about getting the kids to attend also....WEARING THEIR UNIFORMS!  Wouldn't that make for a nice story.  Do you think the Board would refuse to answer a 10 year old ballplayer if they asked why they don't have a field for next season???

they showed up before in uniform, about 6 years ago or more and it was all promised on a silver platter- a swamp that would magically appear as a ball field, despite what facts were shown. The liars were believed and even worshiped by the league chieftans who wished to move the daggy name to sainthood, even though the facts were that THEY sold the fields out from beneath the kids, then blamed the 'republicans.'

Next came the other dog and pony show and more threats were made thaqt the LL would be an election tool against some leaders who actually stood up for them. So, really- what is LL? It is a parents political action committee to elect dagostinos. They don't care about the kids. The parents are the daggy committee and if daggy's friend Ray says all is well, then they believe it. Even though in the other room, sits Ray and he is holding the project up so to shake the developer down some more. When you put uneducated people who are easily impressed with fluff in charge of things, this is what you get.

Can we help the LL get fields? No. The democrapic party has used them like a tool for votes and continue to, so that the proper patronage jobs are handed out certain leaders of that gang. They continue to believe the ones who put them in this position in the first place. I have never seen such a screwing.

Joke.

League frustrated at delay in building fields
Playing on old fields cost bulk of concession revenues

BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

Rotterdam Little League lost roughly 90 percent of its concession income as a result of playing ball on its old fields off Princetown Road this spring.
Crews preparing to demolish the old Rotterdam Republican Club in April needed to remove the dilapidated structure’s power supply, which fed the league’s concession stands. As a result, the league went the duration of the season with only a fraction of the concessions normally offered at games.
League President Matthew Rash said some drinks were sold from iced coolers, but ultimately, he estimated the league lost roughly $25,000 as a result of the seemingly stalled Schenectady County project to build new fields on nine acres behind the town’s sewage treatment plant on West Campbell Road.
“This constitutes a major portion of the money we need to run the league,” he told members of the Town Board during their meeting Wednesday. “Imagine running the town without 90 percent of the budget and without a town hall.”
Rash and about a dozen others from the league voiced their frustration over the lack of progress toward building a new home for the league. And while they didn’t expressly blame the town for the delays, they pleaded with board members to help finally start construction on the long-awaited fi elds.
“A new home has been found for the league, but it’s just out of reach,” he said.
The league’s season wraps up this week, with its last games at the old fields scheduled for Friday. Rash said if work doesn’t start on the new ones soon, he fears they may not be completed in time for the 2013 season.
“If we don’t have grass seed down by the fall, there’s no way we can play in the spring,” he said.
SEWER DELAYS
County officials announced plans for the new fields in April 2011 after nearly five years of searching for a site. Developer Timothy Larned agreed to sell land off West Campbell Road to the county for the new fields so that he could build a 248-unit apartment complex on the 71.8-acre site containing the old ones.
Work on the fields was supposed to begin last summer, allowing the league to open its 2012 season at the new complex. Only negotiations over a sewer line proposal for the apartment complex stalled the town’s issuance of a building permit for the apartment project — a contingency for the sale of the property needed for the fi elds.
The Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority wanted to stretch a 24-inch trunk line from the sewer plant to the vicinity of Princetown Road. With the extension in place, county and town offi cials would then work on a second phase that would bring the sewer line to an area near Burdeck Street’s intersection with Mariaville Road.
At issue is the location of the infrastructure needed for the sewer line, which would also feed the development. Larned’s attorneys want the infrastructure placed on town or county property.
Ultimately, the developer could choose to create a self-contained sewage system that wouldn’t have the size or connection sought by the county. Town offi cials have already approved plans for such a system.
“[Larned] remains committed to the Little League kids and he’s doing everything he’s been asked to do through this process,” said Andrew Brick, one of the developer’s attorneys.
County leaders remain confident that the deal to transfer the property for the new fields will be completed shortly. County Attorney Chris Gardner said a closing on the deal should come with plenty of time to build the four new fi elds. ..................................>>>>...............................>>>>............................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01302&AppName=1

The way things are being handled it would appear that the politicians would just as soon let the Little League go bankrupt and that would solve their problem. This situation has dragged on for far too long, end the politics and honor the promises made to the league.
